I've showed all my family and friends how easy it is to do NFA items with Capitol Armory and all of them told me the government already has their information from buying guns at stores and that the $200 is what's stopping them. So literally yes that is the exact reason for lots of people.

Honestly yeah, that and the wait time were the worst parts of getting my suppressors and SBRs and now that both are gone I'm probably going to do some projects that just weren't that important enough to me to put up with aforementioned hurdles. Double-stamping my XM177 clone with a proper 11.5" barrel and real moderator sounds much more appealing when I know it'll all be done in a week and be $400 less than it would have been.

There are some major differences in the way that information is recorded compared to the NFA details.
If the $200 is genuinely what's been putting them off then I'm glad that barrier has been removed for them.

I'm still huffing the hopium that we can use this as a stepping stone toward total abolition of the act.

Yeah, every time, with a stack of huge legal penalties and worry about who to sell it to, who can hold it, where to store it, what if that doesn't work out etc.

This is nice for poorfags who live in the same county for 30 years and want to machine their own janky suppressors but for me it's like this: the government was charging $200 for you to drive across the state and jump through an amusement park of hoops to suck their dick on camera. Now they're not charging the $200.

Yeah I think the main thing I'll do a lot more of is SBR. I know some braces are practically stocks (pic related, a "brace") but now with no fee, doing some paperwork is fine. Also, integrally suppressed stuff will probably be produced much more frequently now. Imagine paying like $800 for an integrally suppressed PCC. I want that suppressed keltec sub2000, lol

You have to fill out a 4473 for a gun purchase every time, and that's basically 90% of the 5320. Does that stop you from buying guns?
>with a stack of huge legal penalties
Which you avoid by...filling out the form.
>and worry about who to sell it to
Now you're just tacking things on, this was about moving.
> who can hold it, where to store it
You can store it where you would any other gun and there is literally nothing prohibiting people other than yourself from holding an NFA item. You're parroting fuddisms.

NTA but that's exactly the reason I didn't buy any NFA items when they unfucked e-file, I was planning to move across state lines. Now that I have and stamps are going to be free in a few months I can wait until the new year to buy anything. And if all the cans are sold out for a few months, I'll just wait a while longer. I'm not dying for want of one or an SBR.

I really enjoy my Rugged Obsidian 9 and Omega 9k but I'm always underwhelmed by 5.56 cans but I feel like there's pressure from everywhere to own one. I dunno, I still have to wear earpro to shoot with one and I get a bunch of gas to the face. I think something like an integrally suppressed 10/22 would be more fun or something stupid like the B&T Station Six-9

well we didn't get federal preemption like I needed so I can't really do anything and am going to have to wait till those lawsuits eventually win in court.
If I was included in this win I'd uh. Well I'd probably only buy some suppressors, SBRs don't really interest me that much, maybe a MP5 clone.
In protest of their BS I would however continuously be filing form 1s on potatoes and then eating them later. Maybe throw some 3d printed suppressors in there too for fun that I'd use a candle just to make some clerk's life hell at the ATF

Different Anon, but I've always noticed 10.3"s are the hardest to un-gas.
Even with a gas buster like the PRI I always still had the issue still, plus I like the regular USGI charging handle best instead of extended latches.
My solution was/is to use silicon plumbing caulk to fill the gap and reapply when it peels off, eliminated any gas to the nose/eyes.

The only people saying this are nocans looking for an endless list of gripes to whine about.
I sent in a SF RC to be recored and it was back to me within 2 weeks. Slightly more hassle than sending a gun in for warranty work, i.e. not a big deal at all.

I'm going to buy at least two suppressors now for my 10/22 and 22/45. Currently the 10/22 has a .223 suppressor intended for one of my ARs on it, and the thing putting me off buying some dedicated .22 ones was the fact that the taxes would make up almost half the cost, so instead of $500-600 it would be $900-1000. I have a mortgage and a million other things to spend money on besides toys, so the price difference matters to me.

Au contraire it's the most solid argument there is, what place do you have to argue about gun rights if you're not a gun owner? It'd be like arguing about traffic laws despite not having a car or even a DL. If you haven't a dog in this race then why should I care about your input?

yes, genuinely thats the reason the majority of people havent went out to get a suppressor or SBR/SBS, aswell as the wait times which are now massively reduced
you do paperwork to buy a gun, its not too big of a deal to paperwork for NFA when its free
now if only they'd make destructive devices free to register (aside from legalizing post 1984 machine guns)
i can pay the $200 fee to build a 40mm m79 but i want to stockpile a bunch of grenade ammo without having to pay out my ass to register each individual explosive

If you mentioned the NFA to most Democrats they'd probably think it was part of the LGBTQWERTYUIPV6++. And it's not like they've ever laid off pushing for gun restrictions out of a sense of fairness or respect for precedent anyway. They passed mag bans and waiting periods in Vermont and Maine, places with very low crime that had no real history of gun control. They have a fundamental issue with peasants owning guns and they won't let it go, even if it's not popular, so we need to take every win we can and keep pushing.

Honestly they're intimidated by the process as a whole even in its reduced state or just lazy. That's exactly how it is for my brother, he *wants* an SBR but the very existence of the form and the fingerprinting process, and learning about it, is enough to make him not want to bother.

Registration is bullshit but in my case at this point is whatever, I have a C&R license, the government already has my shit. $200 extra is annoying, I can spend it, but that's also on top of the already several hundred dollar suppressor that should be cheaper, but isn't because of the red tape with buying the things. The paperwork and laws surrounding it all is just annoying bullshit I don't want to have to deal with. Setting aside whether anyone was put off by it, there is no longer a $200 dollar addition to the minimum price for a NFA item. This means that cheap Euro style suppressors that are disposable objects you slap onto guns that you don't shoot that often to warrant an expensive can are now economically viable in the US.

Oh yeah everyone's too afraid after 2016/2017 that they might overproduce again, right. Back to just off schedule manufacturing I guess.

GOA has an interesting lawsuit seeking to have the NFA ruled unconstitutional. The reasoning is that the NFA is first and foremost a tax there is no constitutional basis for a pure registry.

I'm not unhappy since a win is a win and there not actually being any tax associated with these NFA items makes their regulation a lot less Constitutionally defensible, but the waiting period and the cost of the stamp were never really the issue, the paperwork was.
Like, if NFA items transferred on a 4473 instead of a Form 4 and everything else were the sameโ€”pay $200, wait several days to a week or twoโ€”none of my shoulder guns would have barrels longer than 16" and everything would have a suppressor.

The argument should be that since the NFA has been ruled a tax that's what makes it unconstitutional. If you can't tax people for exercising any other right, you can't tax them for exercising the 2nd. Poll taxes are unconstitutional, and enfranchisement is well defined. It doesn't take any unusual logic or strange interpretations of the constitution to come to the conclusion that if one right can't be taxed none of them can.

In the end if we win it is the same reward but with way more risk and a higher cost (litigation fees and time). The downsides are far higher because we could lose and they dont get re elected. Its like the Republicans are 50% retarded and 50% RINO.

If you want to sell it, then you have to engrave it. I'm not planning to sell any of my stuff so it'll get inherited and engraving doesn't matter. If I do sell it, whatever gun shop I sell it to can handle that.

More importantly, it's not a "what do you own" it's a "do you own anything", which they absolutely know about. Both me and the government know you own zero guns.

I'm a euro (russian) and I feel like a subhuman because I live in Russia and I can't get a gun. I'm mentally ill and it's on my medical record so the chance I get a gun is nearing zero. If I was a mentally ill guy in America I could easily get all the guns I want because there's no centralized loony database and even if there was there are:
80% lowers, 3d printing, and most importantly private sales
I could just purchase any gun from anyone who's willing to sell it or at a gun show
it's a felony in most of "civvylized world"

the issue is that the gun rights "win" could very quickly and easily turn into a loss and thats what has REAL Americans upset about this. if the courts take their sweet ass time, if the SCOTUS denies hearing the case and then the democrats get back into power and vote in a $20,000 tax stamp its GG. you will become one of those "i got mine while the getting was good, work hard and save 20k to buy one" boomers thumbing your nose at everyone who doesnt have NFA toys. on the flip side you wont be able to sell your NFA item even if you needed to because of that extreme tax number possibly inflation adjusted moving forward.

Nigger the tax stamp cost could have been raised at any time in the past too. They could have done the say as Hughes but for suppressors and SBRs. Democrats couldnโ€™t even pass an AWB 2009 when they had all 3 houses and a national ban expired 5 years prior. They couldnโ€™t in 2013 with control of the senate and presidency and 20 dead kids paraded around for months.

They are as impotent as you are. And as a brown, gunless foreigner, thatโ€™s a really low bar to clear.

im not that anon you were calling no guns you dumb glowie

yeah the tax could have been increased at any time but it wasnt because everyone knows that the registration is the biggest reason why no one purchases NFA items. back in the day people didnt have the money but now they do its just that no one wants to deal with the registration portion.

congress could have created a hughes style ban on other NFA items but didnt because no one really thought to and the NFA is close enough to a defacto b& that they dont care.
>all 3 houses
my good european sir there are only 2 houses in the USA. the first AWB was super unpopular. so unpopular that they knew better than to try that shit again.

im still upset the republicans did a half measure instead of a full measure of freedom on our gun rights setting us up to have to fight longer with more money to secure a victory.

they only passed the final bill 218-214 and 51-50. nuking the parliamentarian not only fucks shit up for us next time the commies are in power, but there is a high likelihood that at least 1 senator defects over it. they already had to give merkowski the moon to get her onboard. remember a bunch of dems wanted to nuke the filibuster and fucking finestine of all people wouldn't get onboard with that. some of the fags won't vote for shit if it goes against senate tradition

Its not about tradition, it's their experience from whenever their party was in the minority. Nuking the parliamentarian or filibuster is mutually assured destruction. Whatever you do can be undone and returned with interests when the other team gets in power.

SCOTUS does not have to rule on the NFA. Just an Appellate Court (say in the 5th circuit) and then for the government (DOJ) to not seek a Writ of Certiorari. It become the law of the land and nobody other that the government has "standing" to challenge it.

Dems will ofcourse challenge it when they have the power again and they will simultaneously challenge the FRTs too as well as anything else they can. The pendulum has swung our way this time but it will swing back against us.

Fuck those Rare Greed bitches for selling us out so they can get rich and check out when the Dems sue them in the future. The also updated their TOS and are keeping all sales and purchase records indefinitely to hand over when asked by a Dem president and DOJ.

>If you know beans about chili, you know it ain't got no beans sonny!
Same shit Texas tries to pull with other food that they make sub-par and then claim they make the best version of.
Like claiming they know how to make Mexican food, when all they do is make school cafeteria-grade tex-mex knock offs.
Or claiming they make good BBQ, despite Missouri, Tennessee, and the Carolinas all making demonstratably better BBQ.
Just Texans being insufferable food fudds, as they are with most things.

This is for tax year 2025, not 2026. As in we're in 2025 and it's applicable to here and now after Trump signs it in to law. There's going to be a short moment for agencies to become compliant.

nobody cares about $200 in 2025. $200 doesnt even buy you dinner on date night for you and your gf. the issue has always been the illegal registration and kiked bullshit that kikes make you submit like your hand prints and all this stupid faggotry that takes 6 months to 2 years to get. you fuking faggots are so busy celebrating the floor crumbs you got that youve forgotten your god given right to the actual feast on the table.

^ This, if all I had to do was pay a $200 dollarydoo stamp for a suppressor and NOT have to go through all the legal hoops of obtaining the legal right to slap a long quite tube on my gun I would have fucking done it already. Hell even the laziest of fat welfare queens can get $200 by simply choosing to skip a few days of fine dinning at McDonald's and maybe canceling their Netflix subscription and obtaining their entertainment through other means.
Besides, just imagine how much debt could be wiped out (if we actually had a fiscally conservative government) if purchasing a silence snake wasn't giant headache?

Honestly I'd be fine with that compromise, of course with it gone now that leaves room for it to be tackled further in the courts to potentially be removed outright.

It's just funny watching Americans pay rent to own guns.

The rest of the world just buys guns illegally with cash, and we pay half the price that you do, for guns made in the US. The US has a closed market, you pay three times too much for both guns and ammo.

sure, europe is better than japan and south korea where it's both VIRTUALLY and FACTUALLY impossible to get a gun legally/illegally
if a gun is in illegal circulation it has to get there somehow
how do you expect to buy a gun where the police works and sets up honeypots and everything else is just scams
