Admittedly the tanks of this period not having laser range finders is a good example of why you'd want a .50 coax for ATGM suppression. Walking your shots with MG tracers to hose down an area is probably a bit faster than the manual procedure to estimate range for the main gun. And a few seconds might make the difference between eating a sagger or getting the operator to blink or flinch.

Sure. But the IDF using .50 coax predates any of the Merkva. And was probably more important for ATGM suppression since those older tanks didn't have much in the way of advanced fire control systems that allowed you to lob HE at long distance quickly and accurately. Now-a-days I imagine the .50 coax is more a situational/nice to have carry over. Especially with Trophy/Iron Fist being the primary defense against ATGMs.
