>>63942104 (OP) Donโt do it man. If youโre looking for an alternative to the traditional school route, go to a trade school instead. Unless you have some misguided feelings about serving your country, youโd be doing yourself a great disservice.

>>63942104 (OP) They all suck, but I rarely hear coasties say anything so they must suck the least
>>63942104 (OP) 1st choice, don't, do literally anything else 2nd choice, National Guard or Reserves (many of the benefits, few of the drawbacks, still get to pat yourself on the back for serving) 3rd choice, Air Force (except SecFo) or Space Force 4th, Coast Guard or Navy (highly job dependent, pick your rate; pick your fate) 5th, Marines or Army depending on whether you want to be one of the Few and Proud or Many and Apathetic
What jobs you do in military is more important than what branch you join. Grunt work will always suck and office work will always be relaxed. The most important thing is choosing a specialty that translates to the civilian world and using all the benefits the military offers.

Air Force or Coast Guard. Maybe Space Force. I don't know anything about them because they're after my time.
Space Force/Air Force (the boot camp is the same for the first 8 weeks) Coast Guard Army/Navy (Navy has slightly better trades training) Going to college Sailor in the the Merchant Marine Cop United States Marine Corps That's how I'd do it again >t. Army Veteran
>>63942377 If that's your order the only thing wrong is doing the Marines last. Do them first, then you don't need to do boot camp, ever again in any other service branch. Plus you'll be force to start out at the bottom if you go Marines last.
>>63942382 Its ranked in order of what i would have joined in perceived suckage, not chronological. Every Marine i met in the states and deployed did not seem like they were having a nice time.
>considering selling my soul to zog Once I get out I can get jobs that require a security clearance
Should I do it?

>>63942104 (OP) Air Force and Navy have a better living standard, Navy being more homoerotic Army if you like shooting guns, riding in armored vehicles, driving tanks or anything like that. You won't do it often and your QOL will suck compared to Chair Force and Navy, but you'll get to do it sometimes which is what matters Muhreenz if you're in severe need of a personality transplant Coast Guard if you actually want to do the things you signed up to do

I don't think you understand how hard it is to actually get into the FBI or CIA. They're not superheroes, but they have enough applicants to pick the best.
What branch should I join if I want to accumulate enough combat training to be able to get hired as a contractor/mercenary/pmc to work in security or in conflicts around the globe?
I don't care if I live or die, but I do care about becoming the soldier I idealize. I'm 26 years old and I have a college degree. Would serving 4 years in the army infantry or Marines and then joining the French Foreign Legion be a good option?

>>63942104 (OP) Caost Guard is the only branch that genuinely benefits citizens. And if you get on a drug interdiction team in the Gulf you will get more action than anyone anywhere until shit pops off with China.
>>63942104 (OP) The sensible approach? Coasties. You get the same common-sense pragmatism of the Airforce, and loads of jobs that will teach you skills that transfer to the civilian sector like the navy but without the soul destroying high-tempo deployments you get in the navy.
If its just the experience of being in the military, Marines. They deliver the highest highs and the lowest lows.

If you absolutely must join the military go AF. You'll have a better life and are more likely to learn things that can be used in the real world. Don't fall for the navy bullshit of either. From everything I heard life on deployment is beyond miserable. Going to college on the GI bill is awesome though. No debt and you get paid every month you're in school.

>>63950861 > >be me >join the army after high school >become an infantryman >boring as shit >get treated like shit >hate life >get out and have no employable skills >first civilian job is working retail for $8.50 an hour This was literally 100% me too. 11b, finished my active contract. After I got out couldnโt get a job initially. First civie job was at Sears making min wage. Worked there for about a year and then got a job making $25/hr doing armed security at a government facility. Did that for a few years and saved up a lot of money. I was trying to go the federal law enforcement route but I wasnโt competitive enough. Ended up paying my way through flight school. 10 years later, Iโm an airline captain now making really great money
>>63951012 At the time security wasn't paying any better than retail and my job was close to home. I wasn't interested in being a cop at first but a few years later I applied to be a border patrol agent and got denied for being color blind. I know some departments are okay with it but at this point I'm no longer interested in it and I don't want my career to be tied to one city.
>>63951584 Glad you made it anon. I'm finishing up my bachelor's degree in December after years of screwing around and doing nothing of particular value. Hopefully my company will have engineering positions opening up soon.
