So what is It really? A fighter, bomber or a fighter bomber?

Regional bomber with some AA capability. F-111 would be pretty close in terms of mission profile. It might try to snipe enemy AWACS and tankers since it can apparently carry PL-17s internally, but I doubt it would be used for regular CAP. The operating costs of this thing will probably be much higher than the B-21

Probably analogous to the role the F-14 and MiG-31 served, spam a fuck ton of long range A2A missiles to down fighters and AWACS while ballistic missiles soften up ground targets and airfields ala Iran kicking Israel.

Didn't know F-111 carried AA missiles with 400km range.

>The operating costs of this thing will probably be much higher than the B-21
Depends what targets it would be hunting. Fighter jets cost $100+ millions now, more then enough to justify flight hour costs of the big boy.

ofc its a bomber what else could it be

its a double blended delta wing so its basicly made to be supersonic

I said that it can do that mission in addition to the F-111 mission profile, retard.
>Depends what targets it would be hunting.
No it doesn't, it depends on things like aircraft size, flight envelope, cost of replacing the stealth coating, engine count etc. B-21 is a third generation stealth aircraft with two engines flying subsonic and built from the ground up with maintainability and cost saving in mind. J-36 is the same size as the B-21, but with more engines, afterburners, supersonic flight and built by a country with only a decade of experience maintaining stealth aircraft. It's obvious the maintenance costs aren't going to be comparable

>F-111 mission profile,
F-111 primary strike mission NAP flight in the night and low level bombing with dumb bombs.
J-36 strike mission profile is 2M 50000 feet altitude stealth cruise and lobbing aero ballistic missiles form that height adding them extra range.

I guess a heavy strike fighter, analogous to a Mudhen. That is to say it's mostly meant to fuck up things on the ground and the water with a limited capacity to engage in A2A. My guess is, assuming the stealth actually works, it's stealthy to give it a chance to get close enough to a CSG and dump everything and the kitchen sink before running away with all 3 on full AB. That may also further explain the 3 engines, it can more efficiently cruise to its target on 2 or maybe even 1 to extend its range amd reduce its signature before firing all 3 to gtfo
>>63942306
That's another idea but I thought the J20 was meant as an air superiority fighter to deal with AWACS and tankers. Maybe the other chink dorito is supposed to do that and the 3 engine is for ground pounding

>J-20 is supposed to fly high and hunt for AWACS and Tankers
>J-36 apparently does the same

So why are they making it?

Also the one that isn't talked about is what is the purpose od the J-DXS? Is it a Flanker replacement?

Long range fast missile truck.
I imagine that chinks know they can't win the naval battle against US carriers, but still need planes over the pacific so that B-52s and tankers can't operate with impunity. A stealthy, very long range, very fast missile truck can at least threaten them.
I see it as an extension of A2/AD. It's there to make US offensive operations harder, but it can't threaten CONUS like a carrier aircraft would for example (in a hypothetical scenario where chinkshit CVs don't get torpedo bukkake 3 minutes into the war

Also, it has a bigass weapons bay for the most implessive long dong range missile, so the idea appears to be that this thing is stealthy enough to get into launch range of enemy AWACS beefore it is detected.

J-36 carries PL-17 internally. Additionally Chinese are probably cooking their own version of Kinzhal missiles to fit in the J-36 bay.
Also J-36 supposedly has longer range, smaller RCS, it has much smaller wing loading so better maneuverability at very high altitudes and speeds (but not very good turn at higher angles of attack, spilt drag rudders lose effectiveness at high AoA).

J-50 by it's design features is massively more maneuverabile aircraft. It's either competing design for 6th gen with different focus (maneuverability) or it's for carrier use that requires better handling for carrier landing.

It also would be perfect to kick Russians ass over Siberia and establish air superiority over that regions with it's long ranges between air bases.
