Seems to be the one innovation that works, kinda. Expensive in manpower though. Because the lines are quite thinly held, there's gaps. When the bikers hit a gap it means they can rapidly exploit it. When they don't it means they all die in spectacularly meaningless fashion. They don't hit many gaps.

ngl, that looks fun as heck to train as but most likely not so fun when the drones are zipping toward you.

You'll want some kind of defense, but then it would get too heavy for the motorcycle, so the quad seems best, but then you'd have to layer on armor and woops I re-invented tanks again.

At least on a bike I have a chance of outrunning the drones, which peak at about 100km/h.

For the retarded war theyโ€™re fighting right now it seems cool. For any well trained and supplied military (US and maybe China) itโ€™s retarded because youโ€™d be constantly bombing command and control locations with precision munitions and taking out industrial centers with bombing and encircling troops with large mechanized offensives supported by CAS and overwhelming fire superiority from your helicopters and the mechanized units themselves and youโ€™d quickly find yourselves in an occupation where then youโ€™d be playing COIN whackamole for two decades while all your arty troops kick rocks because your military is too T E M P O to let them even play a role in the war that probably took legitimately two weeks to finish.

The reason it wasn't worth the effort is because it's not a good idea when all you're doing is being extremely risk-averse in not real wars where you have overwhelming superiority. It's a great idea if you're actually doing some fighting.

Cope for not having MRAPs. A JLTV is nearly as fast under battlefield conditions due to much greater chassis stability and carries a far more useful amount of supplies, in addition to having room for jamming and UAS hardkill systems. And I say this considering the JLTV insufficient for contemporary threats, they need to be built like Baja trucks - 50-100% more suspension travel (16" -> 24-32") and engine power, possibly via redundant engines driving each axle. Because the russians aren't wrong here - speed is life now that computerized guidance for even infantry-scale targets is the norm.

That's the idea, but miniaturized digital sensors have made it easier to detect and destroy 10 distributed helpless targets than one which has the tools to fight back or evade (and nothing surface-bound can outmaneuver or outrun a flyer). But bringing a comprehensive set costs volume and mass, the same reason 30-ton tanks, light jet fighters and 2500-ton destroyers are extinct.

Supply bikers are a genuinely useful innovation on a battlefield where supply lines are under constant pressure from FPV drones because losing one means losing only a relatively small amount of supplies compared to losing a whole truck, several logistics troops and all the shit it was carrying all at once. Additionally, dispersing the supplies across multiple vehicles means that even if your run is targeted at least some of the bikes might still get through

Even logistic bikes are of dubious value, they can't deliver supplies fast enough to support offensive operations, only harassment, nuisance raids and guerilla strikes. It barely worked for the Taliban even when they had 25 million other afghans riding the same bikes to blend in with. 800 rounds of .30 cal, 4 6" artillery shells, a dozen RPGs (pictured) - whatever you load, the entire contents can be fired in ~30 seconds of active, intensive combat.

Except now your logistics requires exponentially more manpower and vehicles to sustain. It's not a "good" idea. It's a desperate one. The fact that the only apparent alternative is to lie down and accept death, does not make this a remarkable or effective innovation. No more than cutting off your leg and eating it to avoid starvation is a remarkable innovation in dietary efficiency.

As APCs are literally suicide in that environment, on both sides, as has been shown 1000 times, I'd take my chances with the bike.

>It's not a "good" idea. It's a desperate one. The fact that the only apparent alternative is to lie down and accept death, does not make this a remarkable or effective innovation.
Perfect. I'm going to paste this in every smekalka and Puccia stronk thread.

My initial impression was "HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA", but after thinking about it, and taking Russia's situation and tactics (lol) into consideration, it's not as retarded as it initially seemed. Russia had an absurdly massive stockpile of armor and weapons. I mean seriously, it's hard to comprehend how much stuff they had. They have somehow managed to throw a majority of that away taking like 20% of a country a third their population size (LOL). Obviously their tactics aren't working, and they're running out of armor to brute force their way through the battlefield. So right now they have
>A heavily dwindling supply of tanks and shit
>A lot more warm bodies than Ukraine has
>A complete disregard (or possibly even disdain) for mobik lives
>The third world need to look cool and totally badass to the West
So in Russia's situation, combat motorcycles don't seem like too bad of an idea.

>Will this change the outcome of the war?
I doubt it
>Will first world militaries adopt this idea?
No lmfao
>Would 12-year old me think this is a totally badass and genius military innovation by Russia?
Yes

To add to that they put aside some new production stuff like T-90M in reserve for future fuckery potentially in the baltics. So vehicles that could replenish losses are held back.

The Russians typically work in very small squads, often as small as three men each. Putting them on motocross bikes just makes them very mobile and very fast small squads.
It's tactically clever at a low cost.
The terminally in-the-box thinkers don't realize this, because they reflexively defer to authority, and then there are the others who automatically assume that everything Russia does is retarded. That's why the war is not going well for them.

Yeah obviously which is why every good unit on both sides uses those. Kursk offensive where the top UA vs RU units fought had few bikers because they had enough APCs.

APC hits usually result between 0 to 1 casualties inside depending on what exactly is hit, and actually protect you from artillery hits and small arms fire.

Why aren't they using their own Urals or just any side carts? It allows for people with zero skills to ride off-road, you can carry 10x more weight, and even retards have a hard time flipping over unless you go full retarded. And if you could go so retarded, you'd have fallen off your two-wheeler anyway.

The bikes are seen not to die by the observation drones, so buhankas with mobiks follow after and now they have a new position and they get 1km closer to the snail.

I think the main point of bikes is that they are small enough to maneuver in spaces that drones don't like. Tree line and what not. That being said, while I love motorcycles the western equivalent will likely just be a small buggy so the drivers need less training. Putting these guys out on bikes is suicide for a lot of them, and funnily enough the US is probs one of the only nations with a big enough riding base for us to field any regular numbers. Its going to be neat to see what SEA does with their units. They have environments perfect for moto infantry, especially on small sub 209CC bikes

Herr General said a year ago that the Russian switch to bikes and civilian vehicles was a rational response to drone warfare and not a sign of an armour shortage.
I didn't really believe him but obviously he's the expert and I don't think he'd be lying.

Maybe not TOW, Ataka, Kornet or any of those other semi-active or manually guided ones since they'd be stuck guiding the thing and they can't move. Maybe some F&F one that's top attack like a Javelin? But then again I don't think the Russians ever really developed an ATGM of the sort that ever got into service so...

Is the idea bad as part of some wider millitary strategy and semi niche tactic? No.

Is the idea bad as last ditch effort number 248 after a 'millitary superpower' ran out of the industrial capacity to attach wheels, ERA and lawnmower engines to stolen bathtubs. Yes absolutely
