Youโ€™re never feeding 5.56 through the grip

But a 221 fireball (>>63953375) might be grip feedable. And at 80kpsi, itโ€™s basically a 5.56. However itโ€™s gonna be VERY nerfed from a 5โ€ barrel. Pistol length barrels require a different species of ammunition. Rifle-tier bottlenecking isnโ€™t gonna work.

Honestly 5.7mm is as close as it gets to feeding 5.56mm through the grip.
Any longer cartridge and it becomes impractical/meme-tier

A strong grip on the thing is important, anon. It's time you bought a gun and took a trip to the range.

I've been told the barrel life on that particular gun is astonishingly low, like 5-8k rounds before it starts keyholing. Does anyone here own one, and have shot the shit out of it? It's a cool looking gun and looks fun, but if it's gonna fucking die in a couple years why bother

I bought one back when I was on a union job and could afford to buy retarded meme guns. I've only put about 500-600 rounds through it, but wouldn't be at all surprised if it craps out under 10k. It's pretty janky.

5.7 is very much a pistol round and not even close to 5.56 other than the bullet diameter. .221 Fireball is just barely longer than 5.7, you could load it to 5.7 length if you wanted although you'd lose a lot of range from needing to use stubby pistol-style bullets, but you'd have far more muzzle energy, much closer to 5.56 than 5.7.

Also, you could get even more energy by using a super short loading of .300 BLK rather than .221 Fireball (it's the same case just necked up) although you'd fuck up the external ballistics even more. But if you don't plan to use it at ranges beyond 100 yards I think it's a great option. Just load some .30-30 semi-wadcutter bullets in .300 BLK cases and build a FiveseveN-sized Boberg. You could fit a 7" barrel in a full size duty pistol, that would absolutely give you 5.56-level power.

>I've been told the barrel life on that particular gun is astonishingly low, like 5-8k rounds before it starts keyholing
Is that really astonishingly low for lightweight short 223? In 3gun usage I've seen plenty of barrels start going south with 223 at around 4000 rounds. In normal range use that should be more like 6-8000 (this is all from a cut or broached barrel, buttoned is going to be way less). If you've got a nice chromed barrel and don't get it too hot you can go 10-15k.

But I'm assuming the keltec one is not chromed, and given what it is people will magdump through it all the time and generally have fun. 5-8k rounds is actually higher than I'd have guessed honestly.
