What US Army base in the United States most closely simulates the terrain in Eastern Ukraine? Is there a better match than Fort Riley?

Where are the trees? I think Fort Riley looks like the Donbas.

Black Rapids can't know how many gazillion mosquitoes you'll be fighting just to get to muster here. It's literally vision blocking, you can sweep these things off your skin like they were paint.

Oh, sorry you asked about regions to eastern Don? That's smooth sailing. Sadly hardly any natural barricades, just hard fighting Ukrainian nation there.

The fields in Fort Riley lack the windbreaks though. I think the big reservoir resembles the Oskil river though.

I've had so many shitty times on this exact fucking road.
I saw Bradleys catch on fire on the shoulder, saw an engine explode in one once, saw vehicles pissing coolant all over the gravel, saw dudes puking during 12 mile rucks, pissed in the bushes at ass o'clock in the morning, threw up a combination of monster and shoppette tornadoes, blew out the transmission on a humvee, nearly died in a rollover...

Western Illinois is probably the best match in terms of sheer density and scope of farmland and complete flatness of terrain.

If you were able to mix in the warmer temperature and wetness of the Shenandoah valley area you'd have a pretty perfect replica.

There's a ridge of glacial soil deposits the runs north-south iirc through Council Bluffs, that's similar to what you find in Central/Eastern Ukraine. West of it is plains with a few more such ridges, and then rivered woodlands and plains. East is flatlands with nothing but corn and the occasional river or creek.

Cold as fuck in the winter, with several feet of snow minimum. Hot as hell in summer, with high humidity and thunderstorms.

Fun fact: follow the train tracks north of the homeless shelter and you'll find a spring on the Eastern face of a ridge. There are paths to follow from that spring that lead to a memorial which overlooks Omaha to the West. It's lovely in spring and summer but damn hot; autumn is best. And bring your tick spray.

If you're there, drive to the top of the memorial and post a photo.

The Donbas isn't that flat.
