Shotguns as a tool to down drones, practical or overrated? Jamcucks need not apply, your time is over.

it makes sense on paper but you really should buy a drone and fly it to its max height and realize how impossible it is to see past like 300ft.

if you were on 'anti drone duty' you would basically be staring into the sky looking for specs and getting startled by your own floaters.

this just like the WWI meme of professional skeet shooters being deployed to shoot grenades in midair

Ukrainian guy with experience said they are overrated. Double barrel loaded with two different pellet size for longer distance, shorter distance when you miss the first shot is the best.

Completely inpractical. Like this anon says >>63974634 shotguns don't have the range to hit drones unless they come really close. Your better with a rifle instead of a shotgun so you can actually hit it.

You can have a drone with blast radius larger than you birdshot and it's just gonna be assisted suicide.

Would a modernised blunderbuss unironically be a good anti-drone weapon?

I'm thinking something utterly fucking stupid like a 4 bore blunderbuss loaded with bird shot. It's not like this war can get much more ridiculous at this point, and it'd be less stupid and impractical than Russia's meme net shells.

Better than nothing but I think drone shot for rifles will be the better option in the mid-term, it allows everyone to be more effective instead of just the shotgun guy.
Long term man portable point defence will be the ultimate solution.

There's a reason nobody who's serious about shooting birds uses a pump gun, and you really don't want to rely on a semi auto shotgun under less ideal conditions.

Yeah I don't think that necessarily all of the lessons from bird guns apply.

I think a magnum 10 gauge with specifically developed loads and choke mechanisms would work better than what we currently have.

say you have a 12 gauge #1 buckshot with 24" barrel and a 0.020″ improved choke then you mite be able to hit an drone at 30 yards.
keeping in mind that even the weakest drone grenades have a kill radius of around 7 yards.

it would "help" but these things are flying so high or fast that it wouldnt be as effective as you think. they probably have some laying around their cuck trenches but no point arming a squad with a few scatter gats

why trust your life in the hands of boris with his spaz 12? The US has the capacity to arm every unit with an autotargeting machine gun turret or two for the explicit purpose of C-UAS. It wouldn't even be that expensive.

revive SALVO, for more bullets per bullet.
the range and velocity should be allot better than a shot gun, although one might have to dump a magazine to hit anything.

It would work for FPV drones that need to make direct contact.

The ukies "tested" it a bit https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y8TLKoLmfm4 long story short: hitting it with a shotgun doesn't mean it takes sufficient damage to impair its ability to fly and even if it gets seriously damaged it tends to still go down near the shooter.

That's kinda the problem.
A 10 gauge mag fed semi-auto with tuned choke and special ammo would probably reliably nail FPVs (whether radio or FO) at 30-something meters, but such a weapon doesn't exist.

Considering that WWIII will most likely be largely underground why are we still using rifles rather than shotguns? Is it just a holdover from earlier, more primitive, infantry theory?

people who know everything will say it wouldn't work and drones will make tanks/infantry/ships/landmines/paperclips obsolete.
i say it might work.

is it better than a sharp stick? yeah. its just not effective in the real world as Ukraine has shown. Hitting a 1 foot target moving 8mph at 50 feet is very different than hitting a 1 foot target moving 80 mph at 200 feet

it would 'work' in a sense that its technically possible to shoot down drones but you are ignoring my point that its simply not feasible to have a human at the ready 100% of the time, scanning the sky for little drones

It works, you need to fiddle with load and choke size, birdshot is good but only within 10 meters or less. If you penetrate the battery it's done. The batteries are usually several vape style batteries in parallel. Oftentimes the drones are just droppers or recon an FPV that's spotted you will probably get you. Having a shotgun man also has a psychological effect that puts men at ease.

They use over-unders because you're limited by the RULES OF THE SPORT to only two rounds per bird, retard. If it's trap, you only get one shot.
