Gripen
Unit cost: US$ 125 million

F-35A
Unit cost: US$ 85 million

Brazil should have bought the F-35A.
But US congress people aren't allowed to bribe politicians from other countries, that's why brazil bought the gripen.

Brazil decided upon and finalized the deal for the Gripen before the F-35 entered operational service in the US, let alone other countries. They also got tech transfer and local production, which for Brazil is pretty good considering that they have a fairly substantial aviation industry.

Because they're not dumb enough to buy flying anvils having rising costs from a country that changes the price of a contract
>Switzerland challenges unexpected $1.3 billion price hike in F-35 fighter deal with U.S.
>A rise in the procurement cost of US-made F-35 fighter jets has prompted strong criticism from politicians in Switzerland.
>In 2022, Switzerland signed a $7.4 billion contract to buy 36 F-35A jets. However, the US administration has since demanded a price increase, citing rising energy, raw material costs, and inflation, and informed Swiss officials of the additional payment request.
>The government is said to have estimated additional costs of about $1.7 billion due to the US request.
>The Defense Ministry insisted that a "fixed price" had been set within the contract signed on Sept. 19, 2022, but said the contract excludes legal options, so diplomatic talks continue. It also warned Switzerland may cancel the purchase if the dispute is not resolved.
>Urs Loher, head of Swiss defense procurement agency Armasuisse, said: "A contract is a contract. With the procurement of the F-35A fighter aircraft, we're suddenly faced with a different reality, despite a clear fixed price."

Neither aircraft has open, available pricing per platform. They are always sold as giant service agreements with training, software, support, armaments etc etc.
Gripen when you add the cost of operation, is much cheaper than any current American aircraft. It's also far more suitable for Brazil, because Brazil has a crapton of small shitty airports that are big enough for Gripen but not for F-16. Gripen is also very resistant to FOBS when starting and landing, which no American aircraft is.

>that's why brazil bought the gripen.
Brazil is poor anon, even more so since China slurped up 90% of the steel market. And besides their biggest national '''threat''' is Venezuela, surp FAL's and Gripens are more than enough to deal with a bunch of starving commies in the jungle slowly dying from Zika and Malaria.

Because the Brazilian govt and the Air-Force at the time wanted not just the plane. They wanted:

>Full tech transfer
>The source code
>Production in the country (by Embraer)
>Let their own MIC to supply parts for the aircraft (thus minimizing ITAR bullshit)

The only ones who agreed to this deal were the Swedish. The US you never allow it and the French fucked up because they tried to bribe everyone and got caught.

In the end the Gripen was the best choice since now only their own MIC gets more know-how, now they're gonna produce Gripens for the Colombians and Peruvians.

First, the U.S.A. would never sell the F-35A/B/C to a Chinese ally, least of all at U.S.A.F. procurement prices. Second, Brazil bought the rights to produce Gripens domestically, so they get tech transfers too.

Yeah that'll do it. I wonder if Embraer tried making their own design and failed, or if they just didn't want to? Either way, Brazil is pretty much as non-aligned as they come (maybe a slight pro-US lean) so they need this more than most

There was the "MTF-LF", which was supposed to be an advanced trainer, like like the M436, but in the end they decided to use the T-27 Tucano as a basis, which ended up being the Super Tucano.

Chicano is a term for Mexican descendants only, you retard. Not even Cuban or Dominican descendants are 'Chicano', it's literally in the name bro (MexiCANO)
Most Brazilians in the US are pretty recent arrivals and plenty of them speak Portuguese, in fact I'd wager you'll hear more Portuguese than actual accent free Anglo-American English in Miami these days. They have plenty of connection to you, especially when they were literally born there and still have BR passports lmao
>It's like saying John Gomez from Ft. Lauderdale is 100% culturally Mexican. (he isn't)
It's like saying Juan Carlos who was born and raised in Baja California but moved to Texas in his 20s for a job is Mexican (he is!)
>bruh at least move to a decent city like Santos or Campinas.
Sรฃo Paulo is pretty great if you live in a neighborhood like Pinheiros, Jardim Europa, etc. literally got everything I need here and the city center is actually kino (if art hoes and law students from USP aren't scared of going there then neither should you). Santos and Campinas are too provincial sorry, if I want a cozier smaller city I'll just do it properly and go to Caxias do Sul or Pinto Bandeira in RG
