Why do modern lever actions pretty much always have full length mag tubes when historically button mags got really popular in the dying days of OG winchester? it is just based on cowboy movies? 1873s are mostly full mag because guys who were buying them were still dealing with injuns but 1886s often have button mags and most of the post 1894 weird models no one cares about in current year that were only in production for like a decade each after 1900 all had button mags or half mags or whatever you want to call it. I guess not in current year, but it's like how most 20th century shotguns had those 4 or 5 shot half mags instead of the 8/9 shot full mags on the better selling ones now

Here's what I mean, this is a winchester model 65. Most of the lever action winchester models designed after the 1894 had button mags standard

Some states had or still have limits on magazine size for hunting rifles. Honestly the only thing I can really think of.

Why not? More ammo is better, and it looks better.

debatable. and most guys when they go hunting don't fill the tube anyway because it makes the gun front heavy. boomer gunblue mentioned filling up his lever gun the first time he went hunting, getting made fun of by a turbo boomer and then taking the extra mags out because it made the gun front heavy
back in the old injun days where injuns could attack you capacity was important and I guess it doesn't matter much on a trapper, but even by like 1886 (actually earlier than that) you see hunters like teddy Roosevelt getting longer barreled button mag rifles

because no one wants cuck capacity, so the longer, the better

so then why did most of the post 1900 winchester models come with button mags as the standard?

I think that people these days just really like having that extra capacity.

It does look nice in its own way. I suppose it's really just that some people figured that 5 was already plenty, and they just wanted a gun which was a little bit lighter.
For that bare barrel look though, I'd personally rather have something like the 1895.

the 1895 still looks way better than all of the other pointy bullet lever actions. I was going to say modern, but the savage is a contemporary if the 1899

I think the Savage 99 looks really pretty. Kinda weird, and different from other lever-action rifles, but still pretty.

I think it's ugly compared to like the 1873, 1886, 39a and marlin 1894
