the M24 has a 60in turret ring, the M4 has a nice 69in turret ring
big enough to take a 75mm gun albeit modified for smaller size

I know they're an evolutionary dead-end, but I will never not love light tanks and armored cars.

It was surprisingly upgradable, like with the Norwegian version getting a 90mm gun, 12.7mm coax and laser rangefinder

Besides having the 76 what advantages did the Bulldog offer over the M24?

Damn, and here was me going to ask why there wasn't a Chaffee with the 76.

it had twice the engine power, which meant it was noticeably faster despite being 5 tons heavier

That 60mm had roughly comparable penetration to the 105mm used on NATO tanks at the time while still having a decent HE.
Unless you are talking about somehow sticking the OTO Melara 76mm on there then the 76mm tank guns of the era just couldn't compete.

> 105mm used on NATO tanks at the time
LMAO NO.
240 mm LoS is mediocre compared to ~400 mm LoS in the mid 1980s. Comparing a APFSDS with a 20 years old APDS is disingenuous.
The 60mm didn't have growth potential, meanwhile the 105 with 3-4 times more muzzle energy can penetrate nearly 600mm LoS in current year.

Except at the time this was the early 80's you retard and the 105mm shells that were leagues better don't get full scale production till mid 80's.

>One of the American projects in 1946 was testing of the M24 Chaffee with the suspension from the German Sd.Kfz. 8
>Its chassis with staggered wheel arrangement and tracks with needle bearings had excellent movement characteristics and was of great interest to researchers.
>Testing on solid terrain yielded satisfactory results, which could not be said about soft terrain.
>In general, there were no obvious advantages of using this suspension compared to the standard M24 Chaffee suspension.

lmao
The M900 got its designation in 1989 and saw combat by mid 1990. Countries don't need 10 years to adopt and get enough stock for combat. The 60mm wasn't some kind of magic wunderwaffe, it was an adaptation of contemporary tech.
