>Donald Trump asked Volodymyr Zelensky if Ukraine was capable of striking Moscow in encouragement of more long-range strikes inside Russia.

The US president told Mr Zelensky that he wanted Ukraine to โ€œmake them [Russians] feel the painโ€ and force Putin to the negotiating table, sources told the Financial Times.

โ€œVolodymyr, can you hit Moscow? ...Can you hit St Petersburg too?โ€ Mr Trump reportedly asked on the July 4 call. The Ukrainian president replied: โ€œAbsolutely. We can if you give us the weapons.โ€

Following the call, Kyiv received a list from US aides of long-range strike systems that could be made available via third-party transfers.

Mr Trump has considered sending Tomahawk missiles to Ukraine, according to reports. The strike cruise missiles are capable of hitting targets 1,600km away, which would allow Ukraine to strike Moscow.

What kind of weapons do you think Trump would give ukraine to achieve this, and how would it affect the battlefield situation in ukraine anons?

OP here, the first article I saw about this story had an added factoid that this call with zelensky was preceded by a phonecall with putin the day before, and the article seemed to imply that the previous phonecall had gone 'very badly', so badly that it then motivated trump to ask zelensky whether he could straightup bomb moscow. I despise trump and I recognise his u-turn on ukraine is purely ego-driven, but fuck it, if it means we get to see tomahawks over moscow I'm 100% behind him.

So I initially shared your skepticism on this, until I saw how the whitehouse actually responded to this story (which was originally broken by the Financial Times from an insider source).
>"The Financial Times is notorious for taking words wildly out of context to get clicks because their paper is dying," White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt said in a statement to Newsweek.
>"President Trump was merely asking a question, not encouraging further killing. He's working tirelessly to stop the killing and end this war."
Given that we can assume anything the white house states publically, especially damage control, is almost certainly a lie, the exact opposite of the above must be true - trump really is fucking pissed and really did want to bomb moscow, at least at the time of the phonecall, and the whitehouse's response is simply them doing damage control for trump's base (who, as good pro-russian fifth columnists, seem to think that any aid to ukraine, even when it involves the US selling, not donating, weapons, is bad and 'prolongs the war')

I don't find it that surprising to be fair. Putin is a megalomaniac, as wannabe dictators often are. That means that when push comes to shove, given that what trump wants (a ceasefire ASAP) is something that monke doesn't want to do, his narcissism is going to come to clash with trump's similarly massive ego. Because the moment trump starts to seriously push putin on the matter, and realise that putin is doing nothing but delaying, he's gonna start calling putin out. What I reckon happened on that phonecall is that trump did just that, and putin ended up sperging out and either intentionally or unintentionally threatening/offending trump. That said this is if we assume trump isn't a conscious russian asset - if he is, then all of this is meaningless theatre, and he's trump's only doing this u-turn to buy time for himself to seem like he's doing something about ukraine. But I hope for Europe and Ukraine's sake that it's the former.

The "prolongs the war" narrative has never made sense to me because the clear solution is a NATO enforced no-fly-zone over Ukraine giving Ukraine air superiority to end it in a couple of months drastically shortening the war.
The only way is makes any sense is if you believe Russian defeat is impossible which half of them do despite all the evidence to the contrary.

I would add by the way that from what I've seen today, the zeitgeist in russia right now is that putin may have actually fucked up here and "overplayed his hand"; which would fit perfectly with what I say above, i.e. that putin got too cocky on the phone with trump and now is facing the consequences of it. I still fear that trump is highly susceptible to u-turning yet again if putin pretends to play along somehow though.

Tomahawk Cruise missile
>big
>subsonic
>prime target for air defence

I know Storm Shadow and ATACMs has destroyed a lot of russian stuff, but we have already seen Ukraine being able to destroy russian stuff with ukrainian drones. Russia has also been spreading out their troops and depots out since the last russian smoker accidents, so what would Tomahawks help with?

Also, Storm Shadow is air launched from SU-24s and Mirage 2000 5fs, and ATACMs are HIMARS compatible.
Does Ukraine have launch platforms for Tomahawk?

The absurdity of the pro-russian fifth column in america makes perfect sense once you realise that one, the people saying these things are unironically paid directly or indirectly by the kremlin, and two, that their audiences are simply either too stupid, or too caught up in their narrow lives (which for the record, I actually sympathise with, as not everyone has the luxury of taking time to properly research politics and geopolitics) to see the truth.
From what I've gathered most of the 'stop the war' magacucks seem to genuinely believe some combination of
>ukraine is a regional dispute and prolonging the war is actually bad for ukraine, moreover losing ukraine has zero impact on the US
>most ukrainians hate zelensky
>any and all foreign us involvement in conflict is bad (this is largely due to trauma from the GWOT era)
>most aid to ukraine is actually a cover for democrat/MIC embezzlement and fraud
>zelensky is a corrupt oligarch stealing american money
and other such things.

I don't think Trump is a Russian asset as in literally on the KGB payroll or whatever, but it seems pretty clear he had some kind of arrangement for prospective kickbacks. I think Trump hotel in Moscow is the most blatant. Hell, that's probably half the reason Trump wanted the war to end so fast, so he could start running whatever scam businesses he had planned in Russia. Putin refusing to come to the table is likely reneging on whatever handshake agreement they had.

Not really. It brings the war to Russia and there are plenty of legitimate military targets in Moscow. It's all irrelevant because Trump just wants Putin to give in to the exceptionally pro-Russian peace deal so he can tick a box off and say he did something. Trump doesn't want Ukraine to succeed or do anything. Why do you think this 'call' was released? So people can say Trump is being super cereal with Putin and Putin has an 'out' to not look like a cuck to accept the insanely good peace deal.

The weapons will never arrive. The 50 day time limit will magically be extended multiple times 'to be reasonable' just like when Trump said he'd sanction Russia if it didn't agree to the peace deal in February. It never happened. Trump just had his cronies release

I fucking hate the MSM so much because they dumb shit down to the point it's dishonest, retards hear "X billion in aid" and think it's billions of dollars and not M113s paid for in the 80s being priced as if they are new production Bradleys.
The government is also to blame because in an attempt to make it look like they were doing more than they were they decided to "price" aid at new replacement cost. By this logic my 20yo Mazda B2600 is worth $40,000 because that's the new replacement cost of a Mazda 1 ton ute.

What the fuck are you on about, retard? How does that have anything to do with how Trump has acted? Where, in any of his actions going back to his campaign run has he shown even an inkling of supporting Ukraine to a degree where they can do something instead of lose slower? Nowhere. Instead he has said (in his peace deal offer) that

1. Russia gets Crimea
2. Russia gets their oblasts
3. Russia gets their sanctions removed
4. Russia gets special trade deals with USA
5. Ukraine cannot join NATO
6. No foreign troops to enforce peace deal in Ukraine
And what does Ukraine get it?
1. Forced to pay $150bn (and may rise to his preferred $500bn)
2. USA won't stand in the way of Ukraine joining the EU (it has absolutely zero power or influence over this action).

Wow, thanks Trump. Really great deal for Ukraine there. Therefore him saying he is going to get super cereal with Putin is just a way for him to force Putin to accept the deal. Except Putin will just call his bluff again because either Putin has him as an asset or something. If you believe the Steele Dossier, then Trump is a Russian asset, but I won't state that as fact. He was bailed out by Russian money in the 90's so Trump does have financial interests (not to mention business interests) to keep Putin and Russia on side.

You'll see, come end of August, nothing will have happened. Ukraine might get 5 missiles (all paid for, btw) and the 'I'll totally put sanctions on now, trust me bro!!!' will come out again.

It's all a game. Except Putin isn't retarded. All Trump has done by being a schizo politician is scare his allies, make them realise that it can't go back to the status quo even when Trump's gone and made Russia realize there is no threat to their actions (on top of other states realizing they can do whatever they want because nobody will stop them).

Biden did more than I ever expected out of a dem administration. Obama was the one that really dropped the fucking ball. The Russians wouldn't have tried this shit if their little green men had been getting pasted by predator drones in 2014
