Why do we NEVER see night raids, assaults, maneuver, etc. in Ukraine, from either the Russian or Ukrainian side? Literally 100% of combat and drone footage is in broad daylight. From what we have seen these poor slavs on both sides don't seem to equipped with night vision or thermals very often, so what's stopping them from making moves at night? FPV drones don't have thermal sights

Some units still do this, but in general thermal drones make infiltration incredibly dangerous. There's a lot of boat raiding bullshit that goes on around Kherson specifically.

A drone is essentially invisible in the dark sky while it has perfect vision on thermals. Doesn't help that tons of NVGs that Russian and Ukrainian armies had lie buried in the mud somewhere between villages of Pissdivka and Lower Shartivka. Neither can really make new ones faster than they're being chewed up.

I heard an interview with a Ranger talking about how soldiers would fall into ditches or get their foot stuck in holes at night. Operating at night is very risky.

I was there for a bit right after the full scale invasion.

The general consensus was we don't have NODs, they might or might not, so why bother at night? I'm sure they felt the same. We'd just recon everything during the day and bombard each other's positions at night.

That was over three years ago, though. I'm sure mindsets and tactics have completely changed.

There have been some, but generally speaking it's just hard to do night raids when the frontline has pretty much constant thermal-equipped drone surveillance.
Also recording with NODs is kind of a hassle because it's analog tech, you literally need to strap a camera to the device and it gets in the way, so I understand why they wouldn't want to do that in combat.

night vision is expensive, and to have a extra camera mounted to a pvs14 or something is more weight than it is worth especially if your helmet mounting that camera. you can get a old gopro or chinise bodycam for under 100$ with pretty good video and weighs basically nothing. adding a monocular to the front of the camera adds significant weight and will complicate mounting. proper night vision cameras are expensive and the cheap ones all rely on near-ir illuminators at wich point you may as well just shoot yourself cause now anyone with 20$ temu "night vision" can see you lit up like a fucking Christmas tree.

tldr : it happens filming is just harder during the night
