>Japanese government officials are telling companies they would be “on their own” if they needed to evacuate staff from Taiwan in case of a Chinese attack, according to people familiar with the matter, a message that has hit one of Taiwan’s largest sources of foreign direct investment.
>Tokyo’s warning highlights the practical and political difficulties for governments and companies in the region of preparing for a potential cross-Strait war. Beijing claims Taiwan as part of its territory, and has threatened to take it by force if Taipei refuses indefinitely to submit to its control.
>The US military has been discussing operational plans for such a scenario with its allies, but obtaining political commitments has proven more challenging. The Financial Times reported last week that the Pentagon had pressed Japan and Australia to clarify what role they would play in a US-China war over Taiwan, frustrating Tokyo and Canberra.
>Two Japanese officials told the FT that, under the country’s pacifist constitution, its military could only be deployed abroad with approval from a host government.
>Given that Japan does not recognise Taiwan diplomatically — as with all but 12 countries in the world — there “is no government in Taiwan from our viewpoint”, one of the officials said. They added that China was unlikely to grant the Japanese military approval to conduct evacuations.
>Although the Japanese government has never confirmed this line as its official position, companies have been receiving the warnings for about three years, diplomats and corporate executives said.
>Japanese diplomats told company risk officers that “you are on your own if you put significant assets in Taiwan”, said one person present at one of the conversations
The US doesn't officially recognize Taiwan as a country either. Is Taiwan really going to be on their own when China invades?:

Hi /pol/.
I'll humor you. Information warfare starts yesterday. You deny, lie and if that doesn't work, pretend the truth isn't possible.

Taiwanwanwan will be protected. Don't worry.

of course. no one is going to get into a war with china over taiwan (literally not-china). the same reason no one is going to get into a war with russia over ukraine (literally not-russia).

there's no outcome where anyone on the opposing side would benefit from it.

Taiwan is a part of China - it's the equivalent of if Texas was trying to secede from the USA and had the backing of China it is only recognized by 12 countries on Earth - and the USA is not one of those.

Even the KMT - the traditional dominant party of the Taiwan government - does not consider Taiwan a separate entity from China, rather they challenge the legitimacy of the CPC. The KMT originally retreated to Taiwan at the end of the Chinese civil war with the intent to rebuild their forces and eventually retake the mainland; that never panned out.

They really fucked the chicken with that one. There was a limited window of opportunity to declare independence, right after several in the KMT realized they would never manage to take back the mainland, but the leadership refused to take that step. Part of it was just due to sheer stubbornness, part of it was due to some territorial claims, and part of it was due to losing the UNSC seat (which unfortunately happened anyway).

Tiawan is not a part of China - its the equivalent of the thirteen colonies trying to separate themselves from the Empire of Great Britain on the basis of the King claiming sovereignty over them without giving them democratic representation

US and Japan didn't recognize Taliban either. Yet US and Japan used their military to evacuate their citizens from Afghanistan.
You obviously wouldn't announce beforehand that you are breaking international law but in the end you do what you like.

The US and Japan had diplomatic relations with the Afghan Government retard, and the evacuations happened when the Taliban were at the outskirts of the capital and the Afghan government were still in control. Same with the US evacuationa from South Vietnam when the north invaded.
Taiwan on the other hand is at a legal limbo since both the US and Japan officially recognise It as part of China.

well in that case nippon is on its own when changs starts bombing their northern island from the newly acquired sakhalin bridge head

nipps really have not gotten through their stubborn heads that CCP has capitalized on japanese slaughter in china during ww2 as a nationalist rage rally point and changs are as dangerous to them as they are for taiwan. Better to help sink their fleets around the foreign island then have to fight them on your home turf

>>64007253
fuck off chang. Taiwan is essentially all that is left of the real old china. When mainland was lobotomized with Maos great leap backwards and the cultural devolution to cover his failed ass, everything that was left of its historical roots was wiped out. At least the parts they were aware about and not hidden in some underground or underwater stash. It was the equivalent of what the zegroids did to the 700 year old prusso-german city of Koningsberg in pic related, only nation wide

there's no point in fighting over something when you'll lose more than you gain. and the west is also currently getting invaded by foreigners, and their leaders opened the gates to them. they have far greater things to worry about than taiwan.

maybe if they were still homogeneous, nationalistic, and had a desire to conquer the world, they'd go to war over such to subjugate the chinese. but that mindset was lost during the last great war, and is utterly taboo for them (le heckin' racist imperialist colonialist nazis).

The same old China that got their asses kicked by western imperial powers and became a defacto colony of them? I'm sure both the Qing Dynasty and the later KMT led by Sun Yat-Sen and even Chiang Kai-Shek would have given everything they got to be see current day China, with nukes, a strong military and about to become the world's 1st superpower.
