Are tactical pens a meme? the ones large enough to do damage don't look like real pens but the convincing ones barely look more dangerous than a regular steel pen.

There are companies that machine a beveled edge on the point of those zebras making it akin to a large needle. They sell just the tip for like $30. Cool idea I guess but I carry mine on my person and would likely sit on it. I carry a gun anyway.

To add, it does make me wish Zebra or another company would make a non-tacticool steel tip. When I drop the pot-metal(I doubt its good brass) on concrete, it bends in enough to block the opening, which can be fixed with a correct sized nail or drill bit just pushed through.

Tactical pens kinda remind me of the whole gray man thing. The gray man concept wasn't a bad idea (try not to look a tactical sperg while still carrying weapons and gear) but it was ruined by tactical spergs not understanding that to actually blend in you need to look uninteresting and unremarkable, which is also hard to market to said tactical spergs

The best tactical pen is just a slighly thicker and heavier pen with slighly more grip, but that is completely visually indistinguishable from a high quality pen, but because tac spergs wanted to show off to other tac spergs and marketers wanted to make their products look clearly tactical, we got solid anodised aluminium rods with more ribbing and studs than your mothers dildo

These are the best. Zebra 701. That's an older one with a black plastic collar just beneath the clicker. Zebra changed them. They are all steel now. Wonder why they did that? The original was fine. It was never marketed as a tactical pen far as I know. I've seen them discussed before. Pretty ideal choice for something low key.

Not sure, but I know they came out with the FX-MD. Essentially a 'metalized' version of the older 701. The current 701's are the same as the FX-MD as far as I can tell, but I only bought one FX-MD before the 701's started coming in 'all metal.'
Tactical pen or not, I think it's an ideal pen for anyone. It can use the Fisher Space Pen refills if you remove the plastic sleeve from the tip, but the standard ink is just fine too. Knurling is perfect and they are pretty robust, aside from the weak tip if you drop it on concrete.
