Once when putting a .22 rifle into the safe after shooting a coyote that was going after my chickens. I must have instinctively cycled the bolt closed after shooting it, and bumped the trigger while putting it in its rack. Made a tiny dent in the sheet metal. Almost imperceptible, but you can find it with a straightedge. And once in high school with my first girlfriend, but she thought it was hot it went off as soon as she touched it for the first time.

I did when I was moving. Just got back from working a 55 hour work week and then drove back to old house. Started to pack running on about 5 hours of sleep and awake for 20 hours. Just picked up my scorpion and aimed at low ready and pulled the trigger to see if it was loaded instead of chamber checking.

Zero rationale in my head and made me super stressed out for the remainder of the month. Wife said it's NBD and I was tired but I beat myself up over it.

They've happened a few times

At friends apartment at college. Just bought my first pistol from a gun show (I was 18) Drinking with friends Show them my new Jericho Try to manually decock Thumb slips on hammer, ND into celling Upstairs neighbors too high and drunk (underage and illegal drugs) to call the police.

Second time

At range Showing friend pistol Think gun is unloaded Point at ground show him how to wrack and pull the trigger. Forgot loaded mag in Shoot between his feet

Third time

At parents house. Just bought a sig from a guy Get home Try swapping slides with another sig I had Forgot the other sig slide was chambered. Pull trigger Shoot parents wall

Fourth time

At my new house Playing with a friend's 5.56 AK Release bolt Slam fires round into ground

Fith time

Showing a friend how to use it No idea how but a round got chambered Show him how the trigger works, Pull trigger Shoots round into floor in the same place as before

Sixth time

Thought maybe the house was haunted Grab a sig Physically clear it, (racked the slide 3 times) with no magazine in pull trigger at the same hole Round goes off

Seventh time

Friend brings over a used Glock wants me to look over it I grab it and pull the trigger without clearing it Didn't even realize the thing was loaded.

Eighth time

Friend brings over his transferable Mac 10 I had no idea how open bolt guns worked. He's showing it off to me I put a loaded mag it and decided to try and release the bolt (I thought it shot from a closed bolt) Pulled the trigger for some reason Shot 3 rounds into my wall

Overall you shouldn't feel too bad about NDs. It's part of owning guns, and you should get used to them.

PROTIP: if you own a gun over a year without negligent discharging at least once, you aren't handling it enough. NDs are a natural part of handling weapons, just like tweaking your back is part of weightlifting and car accidents are part of driving. I ND several times a year because I actually HANDLE and know how to USE my weapons. It makes me a better firearms handler and marksman, and it's a small part of the price you pay in the sheepdog lifestyle Simple fact is, the "safety mentality" will build mental blocks in your head that will get you killed. You need to be comfortable putting your finger on the trigger and pointing the gun wherever you want no matter the time, place, or status of the weapon. Taking time to check whether the gun is loaded whenever you pick one up will serve to make you hesitate in a personal defense scenario. You fucking safety idiots are going to get people killed all because of this fucking "ND" shaming. Guns are inherently dangerous, you need to accept it.

Reminder if you lived a century ago and were a young gentleman you were bound to have a few accidents: case in point this letter I found in archives
>You’re acting as though I’ve loosed rounds into the Foreign Office. (Once, mind you, and that was ricochet.) The way you carry on, one would think a negligent discharge were some moral failing—rather than the perfectly natural, practically inevitable hiccup that comes with honest engagement in the fine traditions of gentlemanly armsmanship.
>Frankly, I consider them a rite of passage. Not ideal, no, but inevitable in the long run—like a fencing nick, or one’s first regrettable entanglement with a cousin.

>If I may jog your memory:
>1. University rooms - Acquired a Webley Bulldog from a fellow reading Law—quaint snub-nose thing, more bark than bite. I’d had two gins, possibly three. In demonstrating proper thumb placement for a gentleman’s pocket revolver, the hammer slipped. Round went directly into the ceiling rose. Mercifully, the upstairs tenants were opium enthusiasts and either didn’t notice or assumed it was thunder. I apologised with a bottle of Chartreuse.

>2. The Commons Incident - Took young Fawcett out to the fields—never handled a revolver, poor lamb. I assumed the cylinder was empty. Attempted to demonstrate safe trigger pressure. The hammer fell. A .38 round kicked up dust between his boots. He now attends Quaker meetings and flinches at lawnmowers.

>3. My Parents’ Estate - Was attempting a bit of mechanical experimentation on a surplus Lancaster pistol. Acquired it from a retired inspector who swore it “always needed a firm hand.” While fiddling with the barrel housing (sans manual), I forgot a round was chambered. Result: one shattered Regency mirror, Mother in tears, and Father convinced I was attempting a very melodramatic suicide.

>Letter goes on:
>4. Crown Street Drawing Room (First Shot) - A friend brought round a 12-bore hammerless—curious old thing, very pre-Boer War. I admired the engraving, shut it with a touch of panache… and boom. Right barrel went off.Rug caught it. Servants assumed someone had opened champagne. I saw no reason to disabuse them.

>5. Crown Street (Encore Performance)- Same shotgun, same rug, precisely one week later. I was demonstrating how it broke open. Apparently had chambered a round absentmindedly. Bang—exact same spot. At this point the rug smells faintly of cordite and tradition.
>6. The Martini-Henry Affair- Someone at the office left the thing by the radiator. I was curious about the lever mechanism. Opened, inspected, and, well—upon closing, the bolt slammed forward with more gusto than expected. Round discharged clean through the grandfather clock. Nearly clipped a fleeing suspect, who promptly surrendered out of sheer alarm. So technically, a success.

>7. The Bergmann Incident - Friend brought over a Bergmann MP18, German surplus. I hadn’t realised it fired from an open bolt. Slotted in the magazine, let the bolt fly—and three rounds went straight into the parlour wainscoting. Startled the cat so badly she hasn’t come down from the curtain rod since.
>8. The Revolver Reassurance - At this point, I began to suspect the flat was cursed. I fetched my service revolver, cleared it three times— cylinder empty (or so I thought). Pointed it at the same poor rug, for scientific purposes. Pulled the trigger. It fired. Again.
> Now, I say all this not in boast but as a kind of… informal case study. Statistically speaking, I’ve handled a wide variety of firearms under various degrees of sobriety, distraction, and inherited eccentricity. No one has died, thank God. Except, possibly, the cat’s dignity. And the grandfather clock.

Recently had my first ND. Finger fucking my AR after a few beers and forgot that I put a loaded mag in. I sometimes use a loaded mag to practice shouldering for as long as I can with full weight. Walked away and came back forgetting it was a full mag. Racked, aimed at the wall, BOOM EEEEEEEEEEE. Went out of my apartment and god knows where. Set the smoke detectors off and everything. Took 5 minute for my hearing to come back. Patched the outside of the wall in the dead of night so no one would notice. Scariest weeks of my life praying I didn’t hurt anyone. Been a few months now so thankfully it appears I’m in the clear.

For sure. Luckily my side of the complex is less dense. Not like a traditional grid of sharing walls, ceilings, and floors. It went tonight a wall next to my window so know it went outside. Then it must have hit a building across the parking lot. But I can’t tell where. Immediately after it went off I casually went to get the mail and nobody seemed to suspect anything. I seriously thought my life was over that day. If I hurt someone the fallout would definitely cost me my job, probably have to drop out of school, cause my family tons of grief etc. was a very unlucky and lucky day.

Not that anon but he's absolutely right. Guns are fucking dangerous. How the fuck do you think people trained and used early firearms? That shit blew up all the time killing maiming and blinding their users and anyone standing near them. People just considered it the cost of doing business. They just weren't total pussies. Pussies like you. Yes, you. If it was up to you, we would still be smacking each other over the head with sticks. Probably little bitch sticks too. Creatures like you are the reason I have to drive so slowly. Why I have to be passably sober when I do so. Can't score any good dope unless I jump through a million hoops or go out of my way to purchase it clandestinely on the other side of town. Thats where the poor people coagulate you fucking mincing babyman. Stop fucking ruining everything good and wholesome because you had poor vision since childhood. About 20 years ago I sent one into the floor molding in an apartment I was renting in a complex. Luckily everyone in the place was at work or not home it seemed. I immediately got in my car and drove north for about two hours before turning around and coming home. Like it never happened. 45 ACP JHP, out of a G30, luckily it expanded about an inch into the wall/floorboard. You could see the slug just looking in the hole.
I would always walk around the house dry firing after dropping the mag and clearing it, but retard moment crept up and I put the mag back in "just to get the feeling where I can rest my pinky". A couple minutes later completely forgot I put the mag back in, chambered to reset the trigger for another dry fire, aimed in a safe direction like always out of habit and BANG.

I, like most retards, was dry fire practicing. Had the mag on my lap. Needed to piss, put mag in gun, gun on desk. Return, forget mag in gun, wall now has a hole.
Atleast I had the sense to always point in safe direction even dry fire practicing.

It's "given", not "gifted". "Given" is the passive perfect of the verb "give", "gifted" is an adjective synonymous with "talented", generally used to mean "of above-average ability".

I bought my first pistol when I was 13 at a gunshow in 2001. It was a Bulgarian makarov. Paid $80 for it and 20 rounds of steel cased ammo that came in a pasteboard box with Cyrillic writing on it.

>car accidents are part of driving
People think going at a reasonable speed in the center lane while using your blinkers makes you safer. They couldn't be more wrong. In fact, driving fast and violently jerking the wheel so you careen across multiple lanes of traffic will make other drivers afraid of YOU so they'll stay back. After all, the most dangerous thing on the road are other drivers. DO NOT use your turn signals. You don't want to look predictable, but random. Having visible battle damage on your vehicle (bashed in side doors, broken-out window replaced by cardboard, and a missing bumper) also increases survivability. It's better for the other motorists to think "woah, that guy is a maniac, so I better watch out."

I sort of ND'd, I was firing a galil I owned at the time, and the trigger reset or something when I wasn't quite ready, and so I let one off down range. It was an aimed shot down range though, just not when I intended so alls well that ends well.

They've happened a few times

First time
>At friends apartment at college. Just bought my first pistol from a gun show (I was 18)
>Drinking with friends
>Show them my new Jericho
>Try to manually decock
>Thumb slips on hammer, ND into celling
>Upstairs neighbors too high and drunk (underage and illegal drugs) to call the police.

Second time
>At range
>Showing friend pistol
>Think gun is unloaded
>Point at ground show him how to wrack and pull the trigger.
>Forgot loaded mag in
>Shoot between his feet

Third time
>At parents house.
>Just bought a sig from a guy
>Get home
>Try swapping slides with another sig I had
>Forgot the other sig slide was chambered.
>Pull trigger
>Shoot parents wall

Fourth time
>At my new house
>Playing with a friend's 5.56 AK
>Release bolt
Slam fires round into ground

Fifth time
>Showing a friend how to use it
>No idea how but a round got chambered
>Show him how the trigger works,
>Pull trigger
>Shoots round into floor in the same place as before

Sixth time
>Thought maybe the house was haunted
>Grab a sig
>Physically clear it, (racked the slide 3 times) with no magazine in
> pull trigger at the same hole
>Round goes off

Seventh time
>Friend brings over a used Glock wants me to look over it
>I grab it and pull the trigger without clearing it
>Didn't even realize the thing was loaded.

Eighth time
>Friend brings over his transferable Mac 10
>I had no idea how open bolt guns worked.
>He's showing it off to me
>I put a loaded mag it and decided to try and release the bolt (I thought it shot from a closed bolt)
>Pulled the trigger for some reason
>Shot 3 rounds into my wall

Overall you shouldn't feel to bad about NDs, they are a natural part of gun ownership.

Did it at a range once. I had only ever fired double action handguns. Friend had me borrow a gun of his that was double action for the first shot then single action for the rest, I wasn't aware of that. I shot it, the recoil was much more than my normal handgun catching me off-guard, and I shot it again unintentionally aiming up at about a 45degree angle during the recoil. Luckily it was an outdoor range in the middle of nowhere.

I didn't get in trouble, the range officer did laugh at me though. Explained the difference in single and double action and called me double-tap for the rest of the day

Absolutely this, NDs are part and parcel to owning a gun and as long as no one gets hurt its NBD. I've had tons of NDs similar to you anon and never once been an issue, just some drywall to patch or the occasional dashboard to replace

That’s hilarious. Double action got me once too. Was shooting my GP100 at an indoor range with a buddy. After I finish the 6 shots I’ll cycle the action a little bit with dry fire, to “make sure it’s empty”. Down range of course. Fired my shots. Turn my head to my buddy to tell him about my dry fire habit. BOOM. Guess there was one left. And because my head was turned my aim sent the round diagonal across the range. Didn’t see where it hit and nobody noticed. Buddy just thought I was just fucking around because I basically just turned my head, called him name, and fire a round off with one hand.
