I don't necessarily agree or disagree with you here but I think:

So I'll agree with you partially here. Also seriously holy fuck do modern freefloat handguards make ARs heavy for (mostly) no reason. You need flashlights in the dark and an optic to help you ID long distance targets. If you have NVG, maybe IR lasers might be a good idea as well. All of those can be mounted on an AR w/o rails.

I already addressed that when I said "w/ riser". I've used a carry handle mounted optic w/o a cheek riser and it hurt my neck quite a bit. Once I put a cheek riser on, all my issues with it disappeared.
