I don't necessarily agree or disagree with you here but I think:

So I'll agree with you partially here. Also seriously holy fuck do modern freefloat handguards make ARs heavy for (mostly) no reason. Maybe I'm overreacting but the weight added is just retarded when 90% of the ARs I see maybe have a flashlight or stubby VFG on that handguard at most. I'm seriously considering the 90s/00s tube style upper or even a national match A1/A2 handguard freefloat adapter style upper when I do go for freefloat.

You need flashlights in the dark and an optic to help you ID long distance targets. If you have NVG, maybe IR lasers might be a good idea as well. All of those can be mounted on an AR w/o rails.

I already addressed that when I said "w/ riser". I've used a carry handle mounted optic w/o a cheek riser and it hurt my neck quite a bit. Once I put a cheek riser on, all my issues with it disappeared.
