any intermediate ship is "aesthetic" because it's out of the ordinary and because it has to deal with tradeoffs which impose tactical complexity, is cool, and piques the interest of shipnerds
2x3 highlights these tradeoffs since it is forced by the need to keep the ship light (and cheap)

Graf Spee is essentially a superheavy cruiser, arguably the only class that was actually built (several designs for similar ships exist in other navies) besides the Alaskas
but unlike the Alaskas, it's a cheap superheavy cruiser

on the other side of the battle you have Exeter, equally fascinating as it was the cheap version of a treaty-limited heavy cruiser
