Wouldn't this action be perfect for light machine gun roles?

>One of captured Grossfuss Sturmgewehrs was tested by the GAU. It fired about 1,900 rounds without stoppages. Its accuracy was basically on par with the MP 43, even though the length of its sighting line was considerably shorter (266 vs. 418 mm).

No because gas delay doesn't work that well for more powerful cartridges. The grossfuss was chambered in 7.92 kurz (an intermediate cartridge) and still required a 2 lb bolt. An LMG in a full power cartridge would be even worse in that regard.

Because mechanically delayed actions like the roller delay on the HK21 are sufficient by themselves. No need to add extra complexity.

>put suppressor on it or change round fired
>you now have to redesign the BCG to work within optimal pressures
>gas driven actions still need to be adjusted
the biggest point, atleast in my head, is that the need for gas adjustment is severely reduced, ideally eliminated entirely. you (theoretically) don't need to worry about dwell time or any shenanigans like that, no? why not?

Maaaaybe, but at that point it would probably be better to just use a regular gas operated system with an adjustable gas block than having to deal with 2 delaying mechanisms that have to be perfectly tuned to work the way you intend.

Any reason not shape the piston like a roller bearing or even a spherical one? Seams like the wear profile would be pushing it towards that shape.
The roller bearing's square hole might be a bit harder but it could just be a drop-forged insert pressed into the barrel.

If the goal is to merely delay opening of the action, why didn’t the Nazis just use CMMG’s radial delayed blowback? It’s way moggier.

(I’d feel hungry if I didn’t eat breakfast, fuck you)

because then it'd want to fly out the top of the gun, and also the gas could go past it and vent as well once the bolt is out of the way

Anon, are you retarded, or do you have secret esoteric knowledge you'd like to share?

The piston is going to attempt to fly out regardless, if the bolt isn't long enough. Adjust bolt length to compensate.
