Whatever they can get their hands on. Usually, these are MREs that are Just edible enough that you'll eat them when you're hungry. Sometimes someone will bring candy bars or similar snacks.

If an army is doing well there's going to be a field kitchen and men will rotate off the frontline for a few hours to eat. A brave kitchen crew might even run hot meals up to the frontline but I haven't heard of that being done since WW2.

More often than not, if you aren't in a hot zone you can get (better) grub than just canned shit. Could prolly at least cook up some goulash and have it with bread. Dont forget, some of these soldiers are fighting close to home (>50 miles in some cases), especially on the Ukrainian side. I have also seen vans and shit that race to the front, drop off some actual fresh(er) food than canned shit, and run back to a field kitchen.

I doubt most soldiers would eat the shit out of a can anyways, too easy to combine a few things, especially w/ ramen noodles.

If on the "line" - mosly canned food like pork patte, boiled pork or beef and rye crackers. Stuff with lot's of fat most often. You want some shelf-stable foods that can replenish callories. During my conscription year we were on a 10 day camp exersise living off on nothing but canned meat and homemade bread baked on a rusty piece of sheat metal. I never felt hungry but by the end of it i was ready to swear off canned mackerel for the rest of my life. Coffee was cheap swil boiled in a tin dhzezve-style , and sweets was a packet of Maritza waffles.

Also, there are laws about selling bad food to the public and executives occasionally get executed for large scale violations of it. It's usually tiny restaurants that get away with dodging inspections, large companies with deep pockets are too tempting a target for lawyers and you'll get litigation if someone so much as shits their pants.

You must have heard the story about a Soviet ambassador (knowingly) serving cat food to guests from the USSR to demonstrate something about western consumer standards.
