SIG has dug themselves into a pretty deep pit, I see this ending one of two ways.

1. The existing contract with the US military is going to have to be renegotiated, and SIG will have to "fix" the 320 and will end up losing a ton of money trying to fulfill their end of the deal.

2. The military will release SIG from the contract and adopt a new pistol instead.

In the 'what if' scenario of a new pistol being adopted, what do you think it would be? Would they just use an updated beretta variant with optics plates and rail and whatnot?

I feel like Sig has attempted to fix the 320 so many times at this point that the design is just unfixable without a major redesign of the safety mechanisms.

Sig fan boys keep ending up being shot. There's not too many of them left now. The mysterious assassin known as ghost of SIG has never been identified. He moved so fast he doesn't even show up on videos of these shooting incidents.

Telling you, if we can't even figure out a damn sidearm, we've lost whatever cold war we're in.

Getting rid of the M17/M18 in its entirety will be a huge morale blow, because it shows we can't even get something very basic right.

Buddy it's been almost 10 years of Sig denying something is wrong with the design. Corruption exists in the procurement process and that's the real problem.

They're two different designs. The P365 was designed from the ground up with lessons learned from the P320. The P320 is a hammer fired gun with a striker assembly hamfisted into an already existing design.

the p365 apparently breaks trigger return springs every few thousand rounds. not the most ideal feature for a military pistol.

Shills and retards did.
Even the 22x line weren't great, they were stamped trash, then they switched to milled, and were ok for a few years (even though the plastic grips were fucking dogshit always) and then after a few years(late 90s) they started skimping on quality.

An entire 10k batch of early 365s had overly-hardendd strikers that shattered during use.
Current 365s are having springs in the trigger assembly break in as little as 100 rounds.

The root problem is they tried to cram a striker assembly inside a DAo hammer slide. I'm pretty sure that's why the firing pin safety is such a retarded design. They were saving money by making it fit without milling the slide differently.
>>64024669
Its a more conventional design and uses the same kind of firing pin safety that other pistols do. They dont have an issue going off. But they do have QC issues like most Sigs.

Also making a slide frame fit with more vertical play in it than there is contact surface on the sear was an...

If they do give up on M17/M18 and Sig's reputation hits rock bottom, wouldn't that also put the M7 and M250 into question? I don't think they'll drop Sig just for that reason, suddenly the past decade of small-arms boondoggle is invalid and people could be held responsible.

Also, history suggests it tends to take DoD longer to just abandon a loser. As long as they think one more fix, one more program, one more contract to polish whatever turd they've got will be cheaper than starting over, they'll do it.

On top of that there's also a lot of variance in sear engagement between poor QC, slop in the modular parts as well as slop in the slide to frame clearance like you said. I think the discharges come down to a combination of the above making it so the sear can get tripped on some guns without pulling the trigger and the firing pin safety failing. I wonder how many guns have just one of those problems? How many drop the sear all the time but the safety works so when you draw you have a dead trigger? And how many have a working sear but secretly don't have a functioning firing pin safety? That's like buying a car they forgot to install air bags in. You'll never know unless you get in an accident and then you're dead.

It's very unlikely that the 320 will be replaced. While it has never been this bad, the government usually makes the manufacturer fix the faulty equipment. It would fall under the "servicing and repair" parts of their contractual obligations

ISMI's +10% spring has been reported to be good up to 5k rounds however I don't think anyone has reported pushing it to failure. These springs are just really cheap overall, like they are all less than 20 bucks, so try them out and use the one that's best for you. Just make sure that it's one made from chrome silicon
