An R-77M has been seen on a Su-35.
https://www.twz.com/air/signs-russias-using-new-r-77m-air-to-air-missile-in-ukraine
It is said to have an AESA seeker and a dual-pulse motor, and an increased range of 193 km vs 110 km for the R-77-1.

Wikipedia range is a vague concept at best, missile energy in an actual pursuit doesn't scale linearly with the maximum ballistic throw distance.

In any case, even if this thing can practically engage targets at much longer ranges without getting kinematically defeated, does Russia actually possess the targeting capability to effectively employ them?

Pretty sure this missile was part of the 7 billion USD contract signed in 2022.
They don't have enough Su-57/Su-35/Su-34 yet they're delivering those to Algeria this year as well.

They'll have like five made a year.

Before 2022 the Russians couldn't even get basic bitch R-77's for their Su-35 promotional pictures, see pic.

Imagine if the USAF did a photo op with their F-35 carrying Sparrows.

the longer ranged axehead has kept ukrainian birds at bay and has downed some. no reason to assume their not-slammer and its derivatives doesn't work as intended.

Algeria spent 75 billions in the past 3 years, Morocco 15.

https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2024-11-14/algeria-hikes-army-spending-to-25-billion-amid-regional-crises

it would be a very one-sided conflict.

No, GBAD has kept Ukrianian birds away. The Russian AF has been a bigger disappointment than the Black Sea Fleet and that is really saying something.

Yeah, I didn't mention the fin change in the op because I didn't know what it meant. So do the conventional fins of the R-77M means it stops being shit at making the final stretch to the target? The grid fins of the R-77-1 give it high drag as it slows from supersonic to transonic speeds, letting the target escape.
