Chinese jets have zero proven capabilities. Aside from copy/pasted aesthetics and a hodgepodge of equipment that is the technological equivalent of stuff we used in the 1990's, the Chinaman claims his aircraft is sixth generation. That's an American term, and America decides what is fifth and sixth generation.
Is it 5th gen? No, it's likely equivalent to 4th gen which isn't terrible, but the face saving Chinese culture can't accept anything but leap frogging a nation that is decades ahead of them technologically.
The Chinese are "faking it until they make it" which in a real battlefield is going to result in a very lopsided K/D ratio.
Yes, they're using Russian engines and they had a lot of help with Russian avionics and stuff they managed to steal from western sources, but what they don't have are 5th gen capabilities.
The Chinese are inherently dishonest and incapable of taking the L.
In wartime, their J-20 and J-35 aircraft are going to be tested and that's not where China wants to find out their "6th generation TEMU fighter" is getting its shit kicked in by a F-15E
