"Worse than the MP5 at everything but we added LRBHO" turned out to be a sub par marketing strategy.

What no agency or military was asking for. Yeah, it's cheap and efficient to make, but it's a chunky bolt slamming back and forth in a light and flimsy plastic body, it feels like shit to shoot, which isn't attractive compared to the famously smooth MP5 it's supposed to be an alternative to.
They should have either just added a LRBHO to the MP5 like they had already done with the MP5/10 before, or figured out a way to make a new delayed blowback action in a cheaper receiver, like something with an upper made of an aluminum extrusion.

>>64033158
An MP5 in .460 would be cool, a UMP in .460 would be unpleasant.

Not only is it a shit gun, the magazine is also a shit design, which it has very unhelpfully burdened other 45acp PCCs with since.

Could someone just fucking copy the colt 9mm stick mags in both .40 and .45? This is the best mag design for a straight wall case and should just be copied in all PCC/rifle applications. Please and thank you.

The stribog is way better, but still compromised by using UMP-pattern mags, and it's still unnecessarily long in the receiver because of the retarded decision to include a button-release which does nothing except drive a wedge into the paddle release, introducing a significant amount of friction and making the button almost useless.

The design could also be further shortened by abandoning AR trigger compatibility and aligning the web of the pistol grip with the rear of the receiver. Just doing that, and butting the magwell right up against the front of the trigger guard, you take over an inch off the distance between the grip and breech face. So you gain over an inch of barrel for the same OAL, and you drop all the associated weight from simply not having as big a receiver.

HK trying to chase sales from people that hadn't already bought the MP5 despite it being on the market for decades. Nothing fundamentally wrong with it but no one was going to get rid of their MP5s for it and people who hadn't already bought the hadn't bought it for reasons.
Though it's not like it was a complete failure and it has probably sold well enough to justify its existence.

I really like it. Saving up in my "expensive, useless gun fund" for a TommyBuilt or Black Ops Defense one on GunBroker. It depends what's on offer on GB in terms of G36 and XM8 builds when that fund is full, but I'd like to get one. Thankfully, looks like enough were made before TommyBuilt committed suicide by MP7 that they're relatively available still. I'm sure the Black Ops Defense guns will start coming on the 2nd-hand market as well sooner or later.

Additionally, I think it'd be cool to have an SL8 and USC as well, but those are much lower priority. I do feel badly about TommyBuilt. Hope to see TB restart production of conversions and builds again.

This but unironically, 99% of PCCs are unusable trash. The only halfway decent ones are MP5 clones and the rooger chargers since they're cheap, everything else is pointless (especially faggot ass AR9s)

It's actually just the MP5, kuna has issues and if you're going to go direct blow back you might as well drop the super safety in a short rifle since the recoil is going to be the same

in .45 ACP it's better than, an improvement on and worthy successor to the M3

No point to the UMP in other chamberings.

Probably not most rifles at the time, but it's excessive size is part of the UMP's faulty soul. It just wasn't a good prediction on where firearms were going, in more ways than the obvious lol it's an SMG

Nah, I would absolutely take an M3 over a UMP. The lightweight plastic and higher cyclic rate of the UMP does it no favors.

UMP is a featherlight plastic shell with a barrel and a steel brick thrown into it, and the brick is direct blowback. Why they thought this would be a good idea is beyond me. I never shot a gun that actually felt like it was trying to shake itself out of my grip until I magdumped one, and I've fired a PKM from the shoulder.

UMP, G36, and MP7 were the product of nu-HK 1990s marketing and design.
Each gun is designed around the similar basic concept of the polymer receiver, which works fine for the small-size-dimension, lightweight and mag-in-grip MP7, slightly less so for the UMP submachine gun, and not real well for the G36 (a rifle that needs its trunnion mount to not be affected by heating of constituent materials which affects accuracy after hundreds of rounds)
