How would you build an underground weapons bunker like in Terminator 2?

I guess being somewhere in the Mexican desert is a big starting point if you're not into gun rust. But I sure would give the funs more protection against the dust. You see it when he pulls the rag down. You'd need to blast every iron with mineral spirit and then lube them fine dust is a bitch

Dig a deep hole,
Pour reinforced concrete floor and create a drainage system
Lay cinderblocks to form your walls
Seal with a roof, make a water tight access hole

Desert is kino for this, nothing rusts there and really there's very little need for a drainage system. If it's wooded, you're probably gonna always have moisture problems

It's not near as cinematic but you can accomplish something similar by burying guns in sealed tubes/ammo boxes/containers. Everyone tries to build bunkers but they always end up going way over budget and still having a drainage nightmare

Why not just dig a big hole and put a shipping container in it, then make an airtight hatch on the top?

Burying shipping containers is a very bad idea because
They're meant to be stacked (the corners bear the weight)
The roof will collapse with dirt on top
They aren't water/moisture tight
They will rust.

They're garbage. That's why they literally get thrown away once they reach port. The whole shipping container industry is a grift imo. A lowes shed is honestly better built.

There are ways.
It just depends on how much you want to put into it.

Gonna dogpile on just how absolute shit shipping containers are for anything other than emergency storage. Additionally they sometimes carry some really nasty shit that coats the interior you need to watch out for.

I spent a good while specing and pricing out prefab restrooms for work a few years ago. Fully built out shipping containers are actually pretty price competitive with pre fab buildings. The fact that you can stack them is pretty cool too. They are tin boxes, but the competition is particle board boxes. I cant remember any of the quotes I got, but they were coming in lower than paying for a typical CMU structure to be built on site. This was the company we went with: https://www.falconstructures.com/ They have a bunch of floor plans and stuff on their site.

Thankfully there are plenty of things that are designed to be buried that you could use instead. Pre-fabricated concrete tanks, sections of culvert...

We use them on site as security guard shacks. My shed comment was talking about something actually liveable. An osb shack is 10x easier to make livable than a container for the average dude.

Really they're both shit compared to quonset guys which aren't really that much more tbqhwy.
