The SR-71 had a very limited niche, like when you needed to know what's going on a exact place ASAP (USS Pueblo), for most reconnaissance the Ryan drones were far more useful

donuts-on-a-chain is a real thing, my father saw the trails, they sound it made was a deep "gonk-gonk-gonk", didn't see the craft though
that would have been towards edwards at the time. honestly though i don't think the aurora is the same thing as the donuts

i've seen the floating triangles before, made no sound, looked the same under night vision, flew very slowly, are about the size of a standard jet, emit purple mist, etc
i think theres a chance it might have been a plasma engine, you can make them at home so i assume some trillion dollar eggheads can make something better than what we know publicly
