Resource on what these spec terminology mean
https://www.nite-walker.com/post/2019/11/21/specs-for-dummies-101
https://apollogearco.com/blogs/news/night-vision-specs-explained
https://gloomgroup.com/blogs/night-vision-info/night-vision-specifications-understanding-what-they-mean

You shouldn't be chasing for spec values but they do exist and if you wanted to know what "better spec" values are there's a way to know which unit is desirable over another.
Most retailers won't post this info as they build NVDs to order, first come first serve, and depending on their grading scale of high, mid, low tier it may differ from retailers. If a retailer offer a โ€œready to shipโ€ fully built units they will list the spec values. Hand select is an option from retailers that will try to match to your spec requirements.

Some reputable retailers:
https://www.jrhenterprises.com/
https://steeleindustries.com/
https://nvisionoptics.com/

SNR: signal to noise ratio, the amount of signal the tube can make compared to the noise
EBI: equivalent background information, how much false image appears in the screen through which the actual image has to show, sort of a noise floor of sorts
Halo: How big the circle of bloom is around lights
Photocathode Sensitivity: How sensitive the photocathode is
LP Resolution: Line pair res of the center of the image as measure against a standardized chart

If one spec is shit it negates the rest, if you have a halo of 2.0 it kinda fucks on an EBI of 0.20 if you want to do any kind of shooting and it's all a balance game

The numbers to meet or beat are
EBI under 1, preferably under 0.6 being great, 0.1 is gucci
Halo under 1, anything under 0.7 is awesome
SNR, over 25 anything over 30 is gucci
Photocathode, 1900+ is pretty great, 2500+ is stellar
Resolution of 64+ is good, 72+ is gucci

I can't tell whether the "merger" of /gq, /pfg/, and /nvg/ is sustainable or not. It's true there aren't the numbers to make all three hit bump limit. It's also true that the three don't cooperate well and leads to infighting.
Let's see how this thread goes.

Has anyone bought from KJA?
Their trade in tubes look blemmed to shit, but thats the tradeoff for them being cheap. I've heard people say that blemmed tubes arent that bad but I dont know if thats just them coping or not. I want to buy quality tubes over gen 2+ but don't want to spend for a 3k gen 3 tube. The blems seem like a good tradeoff, but then again I wouldnt really know.

what is the best night vision bino housing to consider? I want light weight and manual gain. I currently have a l3 supergain monocular but really want to get a l3 bino set for depth perception, as the monocular is seemingly difficult and heavy to use. it's in a regular pvs14 housing. looking to be able to night hike with a bino set mostly with potential shooting applications 5% of the time

They're all going to weigh at least a few ounces more than standard PVS-14. The lightest bino housing/optics combo currently on the market will still put you around 14 to 16 ounces. That's with something like the RPO lenses which usually aren't worth it and most of those lightweight setups are relying on autogain housings. The PVS-31 is supposed to be around 15.9 oz but, everything else with manual gain and milspec lenses will probably be closer to 18 to 20 oz. At that point, you'll start wanting a battery pack or weights as a counterweight which would further increase the overall weight on your head.

I think you're overstating the weight diff it's just a training issue, the more you have exp with the setup on your head the better you will be, also just don't be a twink, have good neck muscles unironically and have a balanced helmet setup you won't notice the diff.

The emphasis on the weight difference was because anon specifically asked for light weight. I run dual tubes and it never bothered me. If you want to talk about training issue then he should forget about the dual tubes and stick to the PVS-14.

Maybe not because the part of /nvg/ that used to talk shit on the poorfags have been pretty silent for a while. They won't be missed since they're probably same faggots who do nothing with their gear despite having the financial means to go train a little. If you're talking about /pfg/ bullying /nvg/ then hopefully they're still lurking around to read it.

can you mount an infiray rico in front of a scope *or* to a helmet?

i'm looking for something to take on dog walks, to see what lawns have rabbits. having it small enough to carry freely would be helpful, since the dogs often shit in the neighbors lawn out of LOS. Having this would make cleanup a lot faster and quieter. heres a link to the rico... not sure if its the right model. i was looking for helmet mounted monoculars.

the rh25 mounts to helmet, scope, or used as a mono scanner. All 3. but the scope mount functionality is limited to probably 6-8x magnification max, it's not gonna be as good as a dedicated clip on like for a MPVO/long range optic. Other than that it's very good. I have an mh25v2 (helmet mounted) the iRay stuff is solid for the price. The only other option is like 25k+ for a voodoo pixels on target or some trijicon/eotech alternative, but they mostly do clip on only.

Point is, the 3-in-1 will likely - only be slightly more expensive, at most, to account for waterproofing. Rumor has it they'll then make a new 4-in-1 to replace the HFXC with something more comparable to the IRIS-4.
I want to see them eat weasel word Somogear's lunch and undercut Holosun.

Not really. The thermal ponchos used in Ukraine, at best, only provide temporary protection. You want to break up your signature and not be a cool blob. Look at barracuda webbing.
Better sensors are harder to hide from. MWIR cooled shit is a different beast from LWIR regular VOX / BST thermals and I think MWIR can in theory see through glass. Not sure if the HISS-HD and Leonardos can, though.
The future IMO will be NIR relegated to /pfg/, SWIR-MWIR multispectral becoming dominant "fusion", and wall-penetrating radar becoming the new high end.
