Questions That Don't Deserve Their Own Thread
Previous: >>63994763

I know there's already a PCC and FRT related threads but since the last one died I'm asking here. Since the Vector has a FRT coming out sometime soon, is it worth buying over an MP5? Honestly I dont care about the MP5 aesthetics and don't want to give money to Turks. Plus you have the option for .45 (10mm is a shit)

mp5 doesn't have pentertation so likely anything newer is better that said the mp5 just works.
always trused tried and tested over new and untested anyday of the week,

unless you plan in fighting high tech enemies its meh. its 10mm version is the better one
wouldn't even shoot a 9mm if you even suppect enemy is using stage 2 or better armor
so if your going MP5 use the 10mm version.

but if newer SMG use the anything that uses the 45acp round.
the vector .45acp in pic related is the best SMG in the pistol calibre.

if your a civilian just stick to pistols and get good.
the smg is army tier anyway

but really.
anything that uses the .45acp round is likely going to stay based.

If cheap blasting is your goal, assemble some ar-9 that uses glock mags. The Vector is expensive and has only one frt design, so cheap blasting is out the window.
If effective short weapon going fast is your goal, then pistol calibers are already a non-starter. Read /arg/'s pasty and make an sbr in 5.56

I heard vector receivers used to crack at about 2k rounds. Supposedly they fixed it with the gen 2s and they are good till about 5k. Which is a long for normal shooting but not too much with SS/FRT shooting IMO. If they solved the cracking issue completely or have a great warranty I'll definitely buy one. Otherwise, I'll just stick to my SS Mp5

Never heard about the cracking issues, but desu I've never really done much research into Vectors anyway. Looking it up, any results that come up at years old. Plus Kriss released a gen 3 last December. Their website claims a warranty up to 2 years so hopefully I can shoot enough in that time to see if there are issues.

>Just want the Vector because you like it?
Yeah honestly, looks sexo. I already have an SBR, 10.3 and 11.5 uppers. I just want one last gun for my personal arsenal and I'll be done gunsooming for a while. I've thought about cloning Colt 9mm SMGs but I don't think I really care for those anymore.

>>64055992
Really I'd just buy it for plinking fun and maybe HD, though I already have guns for HD. Not considering 10mm since ammo is expensive and I hear 10mm Vectors have issues, though that might've been fixed with gen 3

I always thought that the Vector had too short of a barrel. To buy a PCC with a 5.5-inch or 6.5-inch barrel, I might as well stick to a pistol. The original MP5 gave us a 9-inch barrel, which I find better.

vector shoots faster then a mp5 and does more damage on the over all.
>barrel leght. gosh damn its a small machine gun that fires up to 800meters
the MP5 shoots up to 900meters but can't shoot as fast

its l;iterally only 100meter difference.
and you'll still get pwned if your mp5 went up against any vector regaudless of calibre its rate of fire alone would make your body into a swiss cheese in less then 30 seconds
while it takes 60 seconds to do the same with a MP5
lol lmao.
still
if your going range just buy a rifle.
smgs are only for back up or tight spaces its got the same uses as the shotgun
expect it does damge over time, instead of insta kills at much shorter range because of pallet burst.

I'd avoid them. Stick with Ruger, old S&W/Colts or maybe a Taurus. Charter has had a lot of ups and downs as a company.
Taurus is kinda iffy, but they have at least shown improvement.
Classic Colts and Smiths are where it's really at if you want to get the full revolver experience, Rugers don't feel particularly good but they are affordable and rock solid. An old Security Six will serve you well if you don't know what you are doing.

How inherently stupid is a beltfed shotgun? As an alternative to detachable box feds which have higher capacity than tubes but suffer from shells may be deformed if left sitting for a long time, and higher capacity mags become stupid long. A belt fed shotgun with a lightweight belt box would seemingly solve both issues.

Yes. Already went out for service 3 years ago. They don't actually sell any parts for the AT9 and only offer bolt and FCG service. They are not the same company as shipping a gun to them for service was a PITA as they cannot issue RTV labels.

I decided on just acquiring a front sight from someone like this

https://skinnersights.com/products/bear-buster-front-sight?variant=18851864543305

My other option is designing a front sight but much like some other parts I need for guns if I have to do that I'm going to just market the parts then as the juice isn't worth the squeeze otherwise.

Consider using super glue to glue it back together and smooth it out as good as possible with sandpaper and maybe a clear coat (Krylon recommended by mfg but I like Rustoleum). Then use Chavant Sculptex (soft) in the base, stick it down in a cup or container, and pour Sorta-Clear 37 over it. Wait to cure (4h IIRC or next day) and pull part out. Will have to cut the "bar" of silicone going through the aperature/loop of the front sight (hard to find detailed pics of that gun) to pull the original out. Then turn mold upside-down and pour a urethane in it. Would have to email Smooth-On to recommend a good one that won't warp in heat or be too soft. Yes it'll cost like $80-100 and free shipping starts at $100. I'm also starting to repro parts I need so I figured I'd share; you'll have a lot left over to make copies of other parts around the house. Keep sealed and maybe transfer to ball jars to keep it more air-tight as they can go bad from exposure to air after removing the seal after a couple months/years.

>>64056682
>Unless someone wants to make a FRT that 3 round bursts somehow.
You can faux 3 round burst with a binary. Not the same but I've toyed with the idea. Pull, release, pull. Release, pull, release. Unfortunately has to be done in groups of two or with a turn to safe afterwards. Or 4 round if you just pull/release, pull/release.

>>64056688
I think anon means an FRT with some sort of mechanism to limit it to bursts. Imagine a FRT for an MP5 with correct lower that did safe/semi/3rd FRT/FRT, though. Damn. Checked.

>>64056873
I'm not even going to ask. But maybe try chisel tip markers. Or pull a stamp pad out and wrap it around a short nub on a handle. You will be able to see hits and (in the case of the stamp pad) it will hopefully be able to be washed off with water. And you're still basically punching each other so padding is important.

I guess it looks sort of similar if you squint.

The M40 uses a McMillan stock, but they make those to fit a bunch of different bolt action rifles. I'm pretty sure you can get one that fits a Howa 1500, therefore making it a lot closer in function to an M40 than an 1100 would be.

Thing is, I've been looking for a threaded 22 WMR rifle so I have a rifle slightly more powerful than my 10/22 (but not quite a .223) not to mention more accurate than my 10/22, with a nicer trigger than my 10/22, and also factory threaded without having to find odd and potentially retarded looking models (I'm looking at YOU, Ruger!). I could go with the 223 M1500 but it would absolutely shred groundhogs lol. Not to mention I already have an AR for fox/coyote. And WMR is cheaper to shoot by a large margin; last I checked good CCI 22WMR hollowpoints for hunting costs about what cheap ball 9mm does, like ~$0.19cpr compared to $0.375cpr for the cheapest 5.56 brand name with decent shipping on Ammoseek (Aguila 55gr M193) or the cheapest .223 ($0.30-0.344cpr for Hornady steel case or PMC 55gr Bronze). Practice is just so much cheaper it's retarded; you can even shoot with your hunting ammo at the range for that price and not even worry. Meanwhile good hunting ammo for .223 is like $0.70cpr if not $1/rd+ last I checked.

Though you now have me rethinking my purchase of another rifle I had in the back of my head. Instead of getting a second AR and upgrading that or buying a scout for coyote (yes, I'm nostalgic for online games from that era), I could instead get a M1500 and a McMillan stock. Hmm...

I like the look and specs of this rifle, mainly the 22in 5R barrel. But would I be retarded in buying it since the mags are bespoke, proprietary and discontinued? Also 3 shot only without the ability to top off? 1:9 twist.

Looks accurate AF though for a budget rifle.

Anyone used a T/C blot gun especially a 5R one?

I would be chasing (walking in, then sitting/calling) slightly larger game, like groundhog/raccoon/maybe fox? Depends what some field use would show. Bunnies and squirrels get 22LR out of my 10/22, no need for overkill. Site says the M1100 is 6.3 LBS. My 10/22 with folding stock, silencer, sling, and scope, apparently weighs (very) roughly 5.2 LBS according to a bathroom scale I don't much trust on a floor I don't trust to be a very good repeatable surface for a scale to sit and weigh on. Ruger's site has a very similar model (minus my additions and some gunsmithing done) and claims 5.4 LBS (bone stock 1103 model is 5 LBS) so that's probably actually spot on, maybe a hair under. But chuck a scope, sling, and silencer on that M1100 and it might be pretty hefty lol. I was also considering even longer barreled 22 WMRs like the Henry H001TMSPR (threaded model) but the one 22LR Henry I handled in person was fucking heavy for a 22. I guess it must be that octagon barrel but that was a dense gun any way you cut it. Site says H001T 22LR 20" octagon barrel is 6.5 LBS! The model I wanted (pic) is 7 LBS! Still an 8rd mag even with that little stubby tube, though, which is impressive, however maybe the 24" barrel explains some things lol.

I just got around to putting a polymer magwell on my Glock 19. Strike Industries Magwell. With the new magwell Im not able to get enough force upwards to get my mag catch to hold. Is this a problem with flat based magazines and magwells generally? I'm tempted now to not acquire anymore magwells for the other glocks I have if they all have this problem.

I understand how a Glock trigger works, and I'm looking at pictures of Glock switches. Seems pretty straight forward that they keep the sear from resetting to catch the hook, but what I don't understand is how the trigger resets if you stop pulling it in auto mode. This is a genuine mechanical curiosity since I feel like I'm missing something simple.

releasing the trigger allows the trigger bar to move forward so that the autosear can not contact the trigger bar. the trigger can then reset as normal as the slide goes forward.

I guess I'm specifically asking what is applying pressure on the trigger bar to make it go forward. I can disassemble my Glock holding just the frame with the slide set aside, pull the trigger, and release and the trigger stays to the rear. In normal semi auto function I know that the cutout in the slide forces the disconnect or inward which pops the trigger bar and thus the sear upward, catching them on the hook for the striker which pulls them forward to reset the trigger in the forward position.
A switch forcibly keeps the trigger bar down, I get that, but if I let off the trigger where is the force coming from that then pulls it forward?
(Looking this up is a nightmare because all articles that "explain" how the switches work don't actually talk about the mechanics)

ah gotcha. its the striker and its spring that applies its force onto the trigger bar so it goes forward. the striker is always the first thing to make contact with the trigger bar when the slide moves forward. its enough to move the trigger bar with the slide.

if you have a standard glock, lock the slide back and make sure the trigger is fully depressed. when you let the slide go the trigger will move forward as i described. do it slowly to see it. when you do it slowly you can feel the striker foot contacting the trigger bar.

So I don't mean to be dense, but I understand that's how that works in normal semi-auto. However an important part is that the sear pops back up after the trigger is pulled by the disconnector making it pop back up. In a Glock switch it appears to me that a solid metal bar sits on the sear and keeps it down so it can't catch the striker hook. It looks to me like even if I let go of the trigger that the bar wouldn't move this keeping the sear depressed and therefore not catching the hook even on releasing the trigger.

A CO2 pellet gun is plenty powerful to kill a rat. You don't need power, you need accuracy as their vitals are very small. If you really want to go overboard shooting them get a Garden Gun, either 22LR or 9mm Flobert smoothbore. Basically a tiny shotgun.

That said, the #1 most important first thing you do when you have a rodent problem is CLEAN UP. Rodents, bugs, etc, don't hang around for no reason. They're there for some combination of food and water. Deny them that. Clean up any food lying around. Fix sources of water like badly constructed drains, dripping faucets, condensation on non-insulated pipes, etc. If there's an insect infestation that is offering food to the rats then that needs to be fixed first.

My dogs have cleared out most of the house, any time a rat has gone near my German shepherds, boxer, or Boston terriers, they have been pulverised.
There are just a few left, fumigation would be overkill, this property is irregularly shaped and on a hill so kind of difficult.
If I can just plink the last couple bastards that have been hiding out, I can put an end to this.

Thank you, Iโ€™ll see if I can find something with nice sights or a laser, been considering the Beeman P17, it doesnโ€™t take a CO2 canister so not entirely sure how it works, but it seems to go through steel cans relatively well.
There is also the crossman C11, CO2, best my profile to look, but it has much more basic sights.
Just while doing some cooking, saw some bastardโ€™s tail sticking up from behind the fridge, bastard was just sitting there, three fucking feet away, could take him out point blank.
These fucking things are so used to being ignored that they are basically domesticated.
I am aware they are here for the garbage, letโ€™s just say this property used to belong to the most dysfunctional man in human history, clearly his wife looked after literally everything his entire life, and when she died, he did not see it pertinent to take out the fucking garbage.

Dozens of U-Haulโ€™s filled with thousands of 55 gallon contractor bags later, the places nice and clean, but now that Iโ€™ve taken away the rats food supply, they are out and about, trying to find something to eat.
Thankfully the vast majority of them snacked on a couple pounds of RatX, or peanut butter and various electrocution traps, but there are a couple left, and they keep eating through my fucking cupboards, had to buy a stainless steel pantry to keep them away from my food, TRD vermin war now canโ€™t tell you how much I hate them, absolutely fucking disgusting having them in my living space, wanna hit the fuckers with my .380 but wanna keep the sherrif happy

After a gun is manufactured, they are not going to necessarily polish all contact components perfectly, however, after you cycle them back-and-forth, they will essentially wear each other smooth, just taking off the last couple little imperfections on the finish, and everything will start feeling much, much nicer.

>In a Glock switch it appears to me that a solid metal bar sits on the sear and keeps it down so it can't catch the striker hook

the autosear moves with the slide. so the firing sequence with full auto is exactly the same as semi auto except that right as the pistol is going into battery and the striker is fully retracted, the autosear moves forward with the slide and depresses the trigger bar again with the correct timing. you can mimic this with a thin pin punch if you stick it in the right side of the back plate. with the gun "fired" and ready for a trigger reset stick the punch into the back so it touches the trigger bar. then press down. boom you now mimicked an autosear.

>Already got a cat, she is mostly indifferent.
The main benefit of cats is that their mere presence is a deterrent to rodents. They smell the cat and fuck off. If you want to actively kill rats the terriers are better.

>>property used to be full of garbage but I cleaned it up
Awesome, it sounds like you're just dealing with the stragglers after you cleaned up. It's to be expected you'll have some problems after cleaning up such a big mess. So long as you keep the place clean the problem should sort itself out as the rats have nothing to eat.

Beeman P17 is a very good pistol, very accurate, it will dome a rat no problem.

I am once again asking

Thinking about taking the glockpill. I'm looking at some after market 19 gen 3 frame and I want to just get a plain slide. I always hear stories about how people get these fancy glocks with after market parts or glock clones, but none of which are as reliable as a stock glock. How/why is this? I like the frame features in video related, should I just yoink the parts out and replace them with glock oem? https://youtu.be/Fewvi84PB2Q?si=5LWN0PIFPNyi9_8W

>but none of which are as reliable as a stock glock. How/why is this?
It's no different than any other aftermarket, anon. It's not correct to say that "none of it is reliable as OEM". Some of it is better than OEM. Some is just as good. A significant portion of it is indeed crap that's designed to look cool rather than anything else, a lot of it being Chinesium-tier manufacturing with hardly any QC. But most importantly: a lot of those fancy glocks are assembled by people who have no idea what they're doing, either in terms of picking parts or assembling the gun. It's no different with people building their own ARs.

If you want a Glock buy a Glock. If you want to change something out in it then understand what you're doing first.

>durr, this aftermarket barrel looks really cool on TweetyBook
Not a good reason to buy a glock part.

>I've been shooing IPSC for months now and the factory trigger is holding up my splits, I need something better to stay competitive
Good reason to change something.

Is it *technically* illegal to shoulder a pistol brace?

Where exactly should you place the barrel of your 9mm handgun if you want to instantly kill yourself with single shot?
For hypothetical scientific purposes of course. I'm writing a novel where a character commits suicide. It's a tragedy.
