Thursdays seem to work well enough for people to find and use the thread by the weekend. This is the first time we haven't skipped a month in a while though, so we'll have to see whether there's such a thing as TOO MUCH precision.

Here's a photo of my old range if you wanna use it for the next next thread too anon. I should really get the ARCA rail for the seekins.

What's the furthest you've shot?
>1621yds

What's the smallest group you've shot?
>.26MOA 5-shot @ 100yds

How much have you spent on your precision hobby (including accessories)?
>with reloading supplies, ~$26,000
>otherwise, probably around $18,000

Gonna get a Bergara HMR in 6.5 CM as my first dip into long distance next week.
I already have a big fat Brownells MPO to plap on top of it but I’ll actually have to learn how to use that Christmas tree.

I'm surprised there aren't more good photos. A lot of the precision shooters I know are also big into photography, but they are also normies with stable jobs and normal autism.
Yeah the range is pretty cool if a little fuddy. Honestly if there was a range that only allowed shooters based on credit score and didn't have to deal with RSO or range jannies i'd apply. My current range is great cause there's no RSOs and it's getting expanded to 2500yds.

What does your local range look like, anon?

the only local range is nice and relaxed, no rsos or anything you just show up, and since it's rural honestly never seen any bad behavior there, but it's also only 300yd. not trying to be ungrateful or anything its not a big state, but around here if you wanna go further have to put in some effort talking with farmers to use their fields, use your own, or else go to logging land in state or national forest. on my own land been working with a neighbor on our own lanes that should get us to 600-700yd but it'll be a bit of a project. been trying to negotiate for a few years to buy some other land from another neighbor. hope I'll able to report success to prg in another year or two if we're all still alive lol

You would hand over your ssn for a credit check for a range?

nta and I'll admit it had never occurred to me as an idea before, normally private ranges use a mixture of cost and old school "you must be referred by an existing member" methods to screen people. But the idea of using a credit score for it is interesting, and potentially a difference in that you can have a good credit score without much money, and freshly moved into an area without knowing anyone yet. It might make for a nice crowd that also didn't require the range being stupid expensive (could be free or ultra cheap even if it was more volunteer maintained) and was pretty open to anyone who wanted to come. As a proxy for "reasonably responsible" I'd be a little curious to see how it worked out.

As far as handing over SSN, first as a practical matter it was never meant to be private and we've all been in so many leaks at this point that 99% chance your SSN is already floating around on the web anyway. Second though fwiw there are lots of financial service sites/banks that will do credit checks but where the credit requestor never sees your SSN yourself. Instead they request the check, you get an email from the service, put in your SSN there, and then the requestor sees the score but the rest of your personal info isn't shared.

Has anyone tried doing any sort of prs at night? Might be gimmicky but still find myself intrigued by the idea of some heated targets or the like as a different experience.

Night matches are inherently more obtuse to deal with. Competitors and RSOs require additional precautions (namely because it's fucking hard to perform safety procedures at anything resembling a fast pace due to environmentals), lights need to be set up (and possibly turned off for fairness), courses of fire have to be made with NV/thermal in mind (and the limitations of such), and the already small pool of PRS shooters is now divided into an even smaller pool of shooters who have clip-on devices and WANT to shoot said match, not to mention finding RSOs who are experienced under NODs to RSO, and pay them to do so, and that's before finding a range who will host such an event at night.

It's a logistical PITA for maybe the 300 people in CONUS, 30 of which are willing to travel to do, 3 of which will probably actually show up. I can count on one hand the number of people I know with clip on devices, both thermal and NV.

Very cool anon. I'm lucky enough to have access to a nice mile range with no RSO. I recently drove to the Clinton House Plantation- they have a mile range as well but it's very homosexual (requires signup in advance, no projectiles over 4000fps, 1 round per second, no fiddycal, no gigamagnums) which is understandable but still retarded. I'm moving back west, so I'll be able to enjoy the \dry\ heat and wide open public shooting land.

>>64058794
Good choice anon, sounds like you'll have a fun time.

>>64059559
In reality, it's a roundabout way to keep "rowdy youths" and their ARPs and dracos out of the range. Generally people with a good credit score can think and breathe at the same time, and are much more likely to be good people. I really enjoy the precision rifle community because it generally attracts a higher level of individual, much like competition shooters. People who are more knowledgeable and proficient in their skillset also tend to be more successful in life, though they can come off as snooty to the layman.

Sounds pretty solid though both where you are and where you're going. I'm pretty settled so just gotta make do with what's available. Some days make it all worth it though they're so beautiful and just get man out there. Speaking of which, I tried to start laying out a new infographic last night OP but next few days are the most gorgeous of the summer from the look of it so probably gonna head /out/ instead doho. Will try to keep up the head of steam though.

Anyone own a .50? I've been thinking of getting one as a goal to work towards. I'm looking at a AX 50 ELR, or a Cadex Tremor. I haven't kept up with powder or primers, but .50BMG cost per round is much cheaper than other ELR cartridges. I wanna know if the brake is really as bad as people say it is.

>I haven't kept up with powder or primers, but .50BMG cost per round is much cheaper than other ELR cartridges
In a prs context at least I don't think that's really true anymore, and it's not a great elr round. If you don't reload, even really basic shit 660gr fmj is now around 380cpr but I don't think you're getting to 2000yd with pp. If you start looking at xtac or amax now it's like 720-760cpr min. I've seen 416 going for around that. I can remember when 50bmg could be had fairly 'cheap' by bigboom standards, but I assume due to the wars and rearmament happening that all seems gone. 338lm will take one to 2000yd and it's much cheaper even factory.

But basically if you're serious about ko2m or something you need to be reloading, and at that point I don't think 50bmg is at all attractive either which is why it basically never turns up in comp. It's true the brass can be had cheaper, but that washes out with increased powder and bullet cost, the recoil is brutal for what you get as well. Not trying to discourage you if you also want to just have a truly big boom with lots of factory availability (albeit at high price) that you can sometimes push harder too, but I guess just make sure you've really thought it through. Everything about getting into that kind of range is really expensive any way you cut it.
