I know Syria had some Panzers, but that's the extent of what I know about. Excess Soviet and American equipment ended up everywhere and still turns up in the shittest of third world shitholes.

The French fielded no more than 50 Panthers until 1952 as they rearmed. Spain got 20 PzIVs in the middle of the war and kept them around until the 60s, where they were mostly sold to Syria.

Sweden licensed and made a lot of variants based on the (not German but mostly produced for Germany) ČKD LT vz. 38
Hetzer (Switzerland), Finland (StuG iirc).

Everybody copied general Panther design.
Specially made high velocity gun made for killing armor first and everything else second
Massive difference bettwen fontal and side armor.
Good power and speed.
Panther has layout of every MBT made after.

>tl;dr - a couple of countries that no longer had tanks, and didn't have the money to build their own tanks, used some because they had no other choice.

Funfact: the unit that fielded those panthers was also the only unit fielding arl-44's.

If it were up to me, the word "copied" would be strictly banned on /k/, as well as the phrase "why didn't they just". Design of medium tanks naturally drifted towards those qualities, nobody was going to make a new medium tank that had shit mobility, firepower and frontal armor, but the price to pay for having all those things had to come from somewhere.

Panther was a total piece of shit, no one wanted it or wanted to copy it.
Centurion was the tank that anyone more than 1 brain cell actually wanted.
