clearly weren't very fatal.

The only off buttons are the heart and the CNS. If you hit neither, you did nothing but poke a hole and it will take minutes to hours for blood loss to do its thing. It does not matter what caliber you have. It does not matter what bullets you use. It does not matter what brand your pistol is.

It was a 56 second gunfight where the initial shots fired from the .45 were fired from inside a vehicle through the windshield first then into the target. That alone with a hollow point is going to mess with things. Hitting a hard barrier at an angle then flying on to the target for a second impact.
Not to mention that 56 seconds seems like an eternity in a gunfight, but it's not enough time for fainting to take effect. Even with heart and lung shots. A 308 through both lungs of a deer very often results in a 100 yard run before it lays down and dies.
Unless you start poking holes in Grey matter or sever the spinal/nerve connections if it's an pistol you are in it for the long haul.

Usually when tested you are shooting from OUTSIDE the vehicle into a seated target behind it. Not shooting in the vehicle through the windshield into a target 7 yards away.
That said 45 would have been fine had he been carrying fmjs. One of the reasons 45 was dropped by police was overpenn.
40 is a good round. As is 10mm and .45. 9 is shit

We're comparing two weak pistol calibers to eachother, keep up. 10mm is trash. Its only job is to generate more recoil, which translates to less effectiveness, and interpenetrate. That is all its good for.

Handgun FMJs actually don't tend to perform well through automotive barriers. The nose geometry isn't what really matters, it's how tough the core is and how well the jacket is bonded to that core. If you're wanting to do better than modern bonded JHPs then the right answer is a copper monolithic design, or MAYBE some really hard hardcasts.

When people say bullets only poke holes so it doesn't matter the speed or size it grinds my gears because hollow points rely on the exact fact that bullets aren't just about the things directly in front of them. When a bullet loses those ft/lbs and slows to a stop, it gets ejected into the body. Every little number of it. That energy doesn't just magically "disappear"

That's on exit though, not on entrance, skin behaves way differently when it's supported by the body behind it than it does when it isn't. Like trying to poke a hole through a thick/tough cloth that's on a backing of some sort vs free hanging

That energy is less than a punch. It can't do anything. If I slap you, are your organs rupturing? No? Bullet does the same.

The difference is irrelevant because the medium is not the same as flesh and does not behave the same.
>b-but it does better that means it will do better in a different medium!
5.56 performs poorly in water due to fragmenting immediately and failing to penetrate. Subsonic rounds on the other hand can penetrate deeper.

Medium matters and extrapolating one medium to another doesn't work. "But it did better at a meaningless task!" Doesn't correspond to anything.

>>When a bullet loses those ft/lbs and slows to a stop, it gets ejected into the body.
Ahhh, yes but no. A bullet from the common pistol calibers does not carry enough energy to surpass the stretch limits of human tissues. The faster the impact, the greater the resistance. Expanding pistol bullets are designed to use the impact and travel through resistance to expand the bullet. It's momentum that is carrying the bullet through on a basic level. Energy is a largely irrelevant number in pistol bullets when it comes to damage done. A 500ftlb punch is what a teenager would hit you with. Put that on the surface area of a bullet and you just have a bullet sized hole.
Most of that energy is completely burned up overcoming impact resistance and expanding. It just doesn't matter.
Until you have enough energy to surpass the stretch capacity of skin, organ and bone nothing is happening that resembles a high velocity rifle round. As a matter of fact the black talon was popular because veins and arteries that were normally pushed aside by the usual expanding pistol bullets were sliced by the pointed pedals increasing bleeding and speeding up the time the person shot was incapacitated.

Pistols suck at killing people. I had a patient once that was shot around half a dozen times. He was incapacitated on scene, but he made it through surgery juat fine once we got him to the hospital and he walked out the door of the hospital not that long after. Usually it isn't that extreme, but if you're alive when the ambulance gets there, your odds are pretty good.

You literally just pulled that single cherry picked example off of Google from a forum post from 2002, ignoring all of the ones with fist sized holes in them

I picked an example from a 30 yard shot. I set the distance from my experience at over 60 yards. Do you have an example from over 60 yards not being as i claimed?
I think you are a bit tarded.

Because you are fucking retarded I'll explain WHY distance matters. The traditional 405g 45-70 bullet is traveling about 1350-1400fps when chronographed or less out past 60 yards. It sheds velocity like your mom sheds clothing when I take out a ten dollar bill.
