.300 Blackout from a 5" barrel is twice as powerful as 5.7 FN from a 16" barrel and the minimum OAL in the SAAMI spec is only 0.19" longer. You could easily design a P90 style magazine to fit short .300 loads without being ungainly. You might have to modify the .300 case and chamber slightly to take out the taper.

Someone was already working on a .300blk P90, they should make the OAL longer so there's enough gun to shoulder properly and the magazine depth doesn't suffer

What's funny about that traditional optic is it projects light forward and backward, so in a dark setting your reticle appears on a wall in front of you.

There's the P90BLK but it's designed for full-length .300 Blackout so it's got an enormous magazine that looks awful. It also uses a BRN-180 receiver upside down so it ejects into your face and costs as much as an actual PS90.

The right way to do it is to design it around a shortened .300BLK or possibly standard-length .221 Fireball, and make it gas operated rather than blowback to reduce the necessary length. With a Spencer-Bannerman-style tilting block, you could get another 4-5" of barrel and magazine into the same length frame as a normal P90, and it would maintain the bottom ejection.

I know the short barrel is far more iconic and practical, given the gun's role, but I prefer the look of the 16" barrel. The slight velocity boost from the longer barrel is just a bonus.

Or...THE 331 FIREBALL! Yes I totally just made that up and it's actually still .30 but 331 sounds cooler and references its .221 inspiration and every other stupid new caliber pulls that shit so sue me. Or maybe name it the 331 Blueball because YWN get to see this happen.

Huh, well I'll be damned. However you do already trim the brass for .223 -> .221 conversion (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ORfPgmkmdpo) and even .223 -> 300 (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o1_lb7Uo3lM) so in my head I was thinking that you'd keep going and trim it even shorter for this theoretical .221 scale .300 BO. However I did totally leave the neck at the same spot and cheated a little so you're not totally wrong. Maybe this is a little more realistic.

All of the .300BLK's length is in the bullet since it's designed for long-ass subsonics. You could cut it down a little, but you'd quickly run out of case capacity. The "shortened .300 Blackout" I was envisioning was more of a specialized loading than a new cartridge. Take out the taper and load it with a 100gr hardcast semiwadcutter and you'd get something around 1.8" long, a full half inch shorter than AR-15 mag length and short enough that you might even be able to fit it in a handgun like the PR57 and still have people be able to hold it.

That sounds just like a not-.350 Legend or a .350-ish Legend short.
>.350 Legend has no parent case
>The .350 Legend shares many characteristics with the .223 Remington, such as an overall cartridge length of 2.26 inches (57 mm) and a rim diameter of .378 inches (9.6 mm).
>43mm case length
Or, like, .357 Remington Maximum (maybe?) but not rimmed going by case length (40.8mm) ignoring the theoretical loadings as I'm unfamiliar with that cartridge. Base dia is also pretty close for all of them, too, in the .375 to .390 range. What I'm trying to say is dimensionally they're close, but loads and available barrels/twist rate, IDK.
