Former EOD answer: It's extremely situational. The .50 cal is for expediently blowing apart submunitions. It's not ideal, but it is faster than alternatives. Otherwise the .50 cal is one option in the toolbox. Normally you'd use it against an IED than what you think is a truly dudded round. Trying to disable it rather than blow it up (but you stay back because it's not a sure thing).
Shooting an IED or a mine with a service rifle is uh. Yeah, I'd say extraordinarily rare to call it a good idea. Sometimes US or NATO infantry troops would shoot IEDs with their rifles using video game logic before they'd call us, and that always made the situation a little worse because a bullet randomly hitting an IED or mine makes more unpredictable.

I'd have to watch it frame by frame on something bigger than a phone screen to be sure. Though the explosions probably look more powerful than they are thanks to what I assume is all the loose dirt being kicked up after. Watching all the trees I notice they barely move so I think it's a weaker explosion kicking up a ton of dirt. Seemingly little drag either as the guys on the right of the frame fall over in seeming more panic than anything else but don't actually seem hurt as they get back up. The shape of the blasts is interesting and something to look into. Probably I'd want to frame by frame of the round dropping and look at it against other drone pictures to figure out what is being dropped before circling back to the video

It's "just" that they're very patchy, very very patchy. Troops sent to good units would probably have better training. Troops sent to bad units are dogshit. And places where they actually do make an effort, like the drone academy and the missile corps, are actually not bad. Their main strength is their comparatively massive manpower and stockpile and resources. Even if they're mostly inept at using their resources, the sheer mass is still gaining them a few metres here and there, and the few advantages they have, they make good use of it.

Bit like how Napoleon could still fuck Blucher up at Ligny even with an army of raw conscripts and the last scraps of France's artillery (he was armed with any brass or iron cannon he could find, the equivalent of Russia fielding D30s alongside Akatsiyas and Mstas).
