Could the modern US military stop a peak Vold war equivalent from simply nuking modern US?
Say the asia completely disapear and is substituted by pesk cold war Nuclear USA, Could the modern Us stop 30k nukes?
Each country gets like a day of preparations.

Like, current year USAF+Space Force might intercept a few missiles, but the homefront is less prepared for a nuclear war and infrastructure ain't what it used to be, shelters aren't as available, and the populace itself has never been more divided and angsty, so there'd be complete chaos when the bombs hit.

To be fair, by the 1970s when we were staring down the threat of 30000 incoming ICBMs with hydrogen warheads the entire idea of sheltering was highly questionable. At some point when just about every inch of your county is getting carpet bombed with thermonuclear weapons it doesn't really matter what you do to prepare.
