I suspect drone is using jamming to spoof Pantsir missiles fuses.

Cant this be solved by giving the pantsir missile a low 0.5 meter vt fuze trigger radius mode to increase the chance of killing very low flying targets?

Infact it is supposed to have a contact fuze mode, why did the operators not have that enabled instead of the default 9 meter vt fuze mode?. How did missile 2 and 3 fly past and detonate behind the drone? What is air defence doing?

It was always problem against low flying helicopters that guy ground at 10ft altitude.
When Soviet SA-8 get mod to deal with helicopters it was optical sight SACLOS guidance option with prox fuse turned off. So missile just rams helicopter like ATGM. SA-19 specifically designed against helis got such fire mode ad well.

Not only is there good stuff to blow up in Crimea like strike aircraft and munitions dumps, every air defense system moved there to try and protect it after one is lost is one less system to protect a factory or refinery. Why use limited long range precision strike munitions when you can make the enemy bring their shit within range of much less expensive and more easily produced weapons? At the same time it continues to degrade the ability of russia to detect and track Ukranian missiles and planes which makes strikes conducted with those easier.

The problem they have is that drones have too small a return for the proximity detonation to work reliably. So they've compensated for that by making the system more sensitive (which is normally unwanted, because the missile encountering chaff dispensed by a jet or cruise missile could be set off before actually intercepting the intended target in the chase aspect).

So now the missiles go off prematurely when the target has a suitably different radar return, and that's when they come close enough to the target for the proximity detonation to work. Command guidance is generally kinda shite for this sort of work - if you want to intercept targets smaller than an actual aircraft, you want an independent seeker on your missile for maximum precision in the terminal phase of flight. We'd probably see similarly bad performance by the system against HARM spam.

If ZU-23-2 doesn't seem to pose much threat to drones, what ZPU-4 can do?

If the remote guidance radar can't ping the drone accurately then it can't hit.

Serial Number: 60-0530
Military Unit: 354 TFS, 355 TFW
Service: USAF
Home Base: Takhli
Name(s):
1Lt James L Devoss (Survived)
A flight of F-105s was sent to attack a cluster of three 14.5mm gun sites that had been pinpointed near the town of Ban Ban in northern Laos. 1Lt Devoss (call sign Kingfish 01) was making his first strafing run on the target when his aircraft was hit at 3,000 feet by return fire from the guns. He left the area and flew back towards Thailand but was forced to eject from his aircraft near Ban Thasi, 35 miles north of the Thai border. He was later rescued by a HH-53b helicopter from the 40th ARRS having suffered a broken leg and arm during the ejection. F-105D 60-0530 was painted as โ€˜Tandem Turtleโ€™ when it flew with the 34th TFS.

Russia isn't defending anything with them and utterly lack a national tracking and warning system like Ukraine has, if they just used them and copied Ukraine's warning app it would be a dramatic help to them. Really? So when Russia started launching several hundred Shaheds and Gerberas did government announced large investment into buying more of such guns and more modernization or did they announce investment into drone-interceptors. Did Zelensky go and have meeting with owner of firm refurbishing those guns or ex-Google guy making interceptor drones? Did large fundraises were made to buy and refurbish more of such guns or to build more and more interceptor drones?
>but the people who use them shoot down dozens of drones with them daily
why but? They are intercepting dozens of them, which is why I said they are lacking, they have to intercept hundreds, they can't.
This is why there's huge investment into drones and not them

Everything you said it true: Ukraine invested a huge amount of effort to bring back 14.5mm and 23mm guns, mounted them on trucks and in coordination with their drone reporting app are shooting down huge numbers of them.

>why but? They are intercepting dozens of them, which is why I said they are lacking, they have to intercept hundreds, they can't.
This is why there's huge investment into drones and not them

It's called layered defense, if you don't understand the concept then you have no place commenting on it.

>if reality was biased against me there wouldn't be such huge drive to scale up shahed-interceptor production, because those guns would be enough and there wouldn't be need to have hundreds/thousands interceptors a day

See above statement, you are really reaching now.

The simple fact is if Russia had even a fraction of Ukraine's low level air defenses protecting critical targets or just hired the Norks they would be suffering much lower losses. They aren't and no amount of Zigger whining will fix that.
