Extreme long shot but anybody got any photos of the Tajikistan Civil War? Looks insanely kino, a post-Soviet conflict along clan and regional lines on the roof of the world, but it seems like it's practically impossible to find any photos on the (English) internet. I'll post what I've got in any case

Also anybody know how to get the full size versions of photos from Sputnik's media bank?

I had similar problems when trying to get good photos of the Soviet-Afghan War. There's no easy solution.

Wikimedia Commons only has 17 pictures for the Tajik Civil War, and they all suck.

Have you tried google?

I mean there's like ~100 more on Sputnik's media bank (just filter by country Tajikistan and topic conflicts) but they're all watermarked and probably like half of the photos are just different shots of the same subject

No I didn't think of that

I got a bunch of really good high res photos of the Soviet-Afghan War by searching through threads in the archive, especially those by Scout, but you might have already done that

I might create a thread this evening for Soviet-Afghan War pics.

for what its worth, theres a very good video on a subject, though its in Russian.
Might be able to get away with YT auto translate captions, they are somewhat accurate and understandable

Why aren't Gast guns more popular? They offer near-Gatling-level RoF, in a much more compact package. And, unlike revolver cannons, they have lower barrel wear, since each twinned barrel only fires half the total number of rounds.

Single barrel low-velocity chainguns on nose turret mounts are just better, no full power cannon round is effective against anything lower velocity cannons aren't. If you need to destroy a tank you use a missile. You also can fire them without needing to turn the entire helicopter, and Mi-24's aren't exactly the most nimble.

I wasn't necessarily referring to the Mi-24P's (I think that's the model number) arrangement. That was more of a bodge job, after the original 14.5 mm gatling was found severely lacking.
It was more of a general remark regarding aircraft cannon, who tend to be either revolvers or gatlings, despite gast having a fair number of advantages in its own right.
