Most shots taken on game here in the US is sub 100yrds. Something like 8.6 is capable, but I personally fail to see why someone would choose a sub sonic offering for taking any medium to large sized game. I understand not disturbing the other animals, but again for the majority it serves no purpose

There's a difference between being possible to make the shot and being ethical to make the shot, and hunters almost always err on the side of excessive power and minimal ranges. Once upon a time there were hunters that swore by .220 Swift for taking moose and .303 British for Elephant. Now it's .300 Winmag and .500 Nitro Express, absolute minimum.

For big game, head shots are never ethical shots unless you've already put it down and it's a mercy shot from up close. Sometimes hunters report seeing deer with their lower jaw blown off, with stomachs full of unchewed food. Through the middle of the boiler room is the one you wait for.
