personally I think that me ne frego is one of the best political slogans ever. "I don't care" such a versatile line that conveys such a direct attitude.

Whats the purpose of all these cable on the mast of warship?
Its not a radio antena like those cable on planes because why would you need that many.

Signal flags.

The wires also contained antennas and guy wires.
To avoid interference, the transmitting and receiving antennas had to be separated and placed as far apart as possible.

How about instead of a photo dump over two weeks you caption them to give any context and start a discussion.

That is of course if you're not like 99.997 percent of /k/ users and aren't just a Brainlet plebbitard 'spoonfeed-me' shitposter

And, if an image on this board is seen uploaded without context then reply to that image/poster with a query about it (as several itt have done already)

why the need for effort posting back to top of Catalog?
these picture threads of vintage hardware ought be the most consistently present, and fastest moving topics on the site. Warship, warplane pic threads should be dominating entire Catalog, ever-present requiring zero effort
This is an *image* board.
nobody cares about discussion and sharing of vintage pics?

Flores and Soemba provided gunnery support during most allied landings, their 150mm guns and fire control systems proving very effective

Johan Maurits van Nassau didn't get to shine much in the war, spending the first 3 days traveling back and forth between Vlissingen and Hoek van Holland due to propeller obstructions.
her armament and fire control, similar to her cousins Flores and Soemba, allowed her to silence a german battery from a distance of 18km, she would be sunk by german aircraft in her attempt to evacuate to England.

gunnery training vessel van Kinsbergen had a fairly uneventful war, spending most of the conflict in the Caribbean on patrol or as an escort.
Anonymous No.64392684 [Report]

the K class gunboats were captured on the slipway in May 1940, and ended up in German service. K3 would be the only of her class to survive the war (unscathed), being found in a Norwegian fjord, and would see service under a variety of names/designations until 1960.
the ships were fairly heavily armored for their size, and were armed with the same 120mm guns as the van Kinsbergen, this time mounted as pairs in two armored turrets.

today, 86 years ago, R-class battleship HMS Royal Oak was sunk by U-47, which had infiltrated the Scapa Flow anchorage
U-47 scored 4 hits, one to the bow and three amidships, causing the vessel to capsize with the loss of 814 souls, including Rear-Admiral Blagrove and 134 boy seamen under the age of 18

>look-down/shoot-down radar
is an air-to-air concept, not air-to-surface

airborne surface-search radar is actually less powerful than look-down/shoot-down; it's easier to spot a ship in a sea than to spot a plane skimming treetops and ducking into valleys

antiship missile boats were defeated by a combination of decoys and improved miniaturised antiship missiles carried by helicopters such as the Sea Skua and Penguin missiles

None of the photo threads on /k/ stay up.
There's a warship anon that has effortposted some of the last 6 months threads during this year about 100 pics each thread from his collection

Obviously: it's helpful when posting (historical) photographs to have a few text notations.
I did that for awhile with some of the past 2 years' aviation threads. Nobody gives a fuck on /k/ or responds
This board is deader than plebbit

a view from above of the forward guns on a french destroyer
note the semi-circular gutter with shells and charges around the gun, this allowed for faster and easier loading regardless of the turrets orientation
the gutters ran from the enclosed hoist rooms and could also serve as sort of ready rack
on later classes the gutters would completely surround the guns, in some cases they would be (partially) disassembled and only put back into place when action was imminent
