IT ain't much anons, but I can highly recommend some fantastic mods for EAW.
The highest tier ones are Awakening of the Rebellion and Thrawn's Revenge.
AOTR is really hard and you absolutely cannot brute force space battles, you have actually give a shit about space battles and it introduces a ton of mechanics.
Thrawn's revenge is a bit closer to vanilla but has a bunch of new mechanics and heroes. It's actually the most ambitious mod, it aims to completely adapt every era of the EU post ROTJ. It's slow going, due to other side projects, but it's really damn impressive. Also SSDs are real powerhouses now.
Thrawn's Revenge has two sub mods, Reven's revenge, still in beta, and Fall of the Republic.
Those take place in the Old Republic and Clone Wars respectively.
If you want a more close to Vanilla version of the Clone Wars, try Republic at War.
I'd really suggest checking out the modding scene it is super alive and well.
Part of this is that Petroglyph still puts out updates to the game to enhance what modders can do and to make it easier for them.
They even changed the game from 32 bit to 64 bit just to help.
They want to make a sequel, etc., but Disney won't say yes.
So, in that absence, they're doing what they can to make things easier for modders.
