Not my military but I do that India is working on a top secret waste disposal project that’s been in development for over one hundred years. It just means that if I need to access SECRET information for work, I am eligible to do so. Doesn't mean that I look at it everyday, or even often.

In the civilian world if you're not an Engineer, Program/Project Manager, , Contracts, Security, you probably won't actually see classified material often, but the company may still want you cleared just in case.
