When the hell are they going to announce it?
It's been two weeks since an announcement was imminent, are we really gonna get edged like this for the third time? I already know Northrop Grumman is gonna win, I just wanna get it done and over with so they can officially start working on it.

It would be surprising to me if a multi billion dollar procurement program gets a contract awarded during the government shutdown. A lot of the DoD functionaries who do the legwork for these things probably aren’t working right now, and more importantly most of the money to actually fund the contract would have to come from the FY2026 budget. Not having passed said budget is why the government is shutdown. Without whatever funding F/A-XX ends up with in the final budget, $09.-1.4 billion based on the House and Senate proposals from the summer respectively they only have whatever top up money they got from OBBB, which isn’t enough. With the Senate number I think the combined total for the year is ~$2.1 billion since iirc the program got about $700 million as a one time top up from that bill. F-47 is funded to over $3 billion this year for comparison, but that program is also technically more ambitious and will be much more expensive per unit while possibly having a much smaller buy. F/A-XX is less ambitious as the Navy needs to replace more airframes so needs to buy more than the Air Forces’s public ~200 target.

following defense news teaches you to ignore 99.9% of what the government says and disregard 100% of their self imposed deadlines/schedules

That's a training issue. Rough Rider was a stress test for the CSGs in high A2D2 environments. We learned that the ASBM spam defense the Chinese are counting on to take out US flattops is laughably ineffective since even in very restricted waters the CVN can easily maneuver outside the max slant range of the incoming ordnance. However, that's a ships company thing, not an airwing thing, so it wasn't clear to the air wing that Condition One Air Warning meant the ship might make radical maneuvers. Therefore they were still plane spotting during the Air Warning and not chocked and Chained. Since then the Warning has been changed to specify if it includes ASBMs or not, as that's the only Air Warning threat which requires the carrier to make deep heeling maneuvers at flank bell. The upshot being the PLA planned almost their entire season denial strategy on a platform we learned can be defeated by the devious Yankee Air Pirate tactic known as "turning"

Lockmart and friends were added to the UEL in Feb 2023. So uhh, how are they still pumping out 160 F-35s and 2000 AMRAAMS in 2025 when they've been cut off for 2 years?
