My penitentiary law instructor, who's also a shooting instructor, said that handgun wounds are more dangerous than rifle wounds.

Sounds completely wrong but I'm not gonna argue with him. He's theoretically a gun expert, after all.

In a strictly numbers sense, he's right. You are far more likely to die to pistol fire than rifle fire in the US.

why do the bullet holes start inside of the blue if the guns are shoting from the right side?

Those are boomerang bullets

Does this mean that it is unlikely for a pistol bullet to penetrate the target before releasing its energy after hitting it?

Might well be it, 5.56 doesn't always fragment reliably from carbine length barrels either

He's a moron talking out of his ass.

Here's an old video of doctor (trauma anesthesiologist) holding a lecture about the injury mechanisms of gunshot wounds and the treatment of patients with such wounds (mostly how to keep them from bleeding to death before & during surgery). The good doctor makes it abundantly clear that rifles and shotguns are FAR more potent than handguns, and he provides proof to back up his claims.
