More tissue damage and a larger hole is still an advantage, and you DO get appreciably better wounding with good hollowpoints in 9mm, .38Spc .40, .45, 10mm, etc, you don't HAVE to give up good penetration for good expansion.
.380 is light and slow enough that this can be iffy, particularly when talking about the subcompacts with the short barrels, which is why people look at stuff like the Underwood XPs and what not instead.
