I only buy Winchester 9mm basically but for .45 I buy whatever is cheapest. Speer Lawman 200 gr +P is quite stout and is supposed to be paired with their 200 gr +P Gold Dot, a few brands make specific practice ammo that mimics their duty ammo which is good.

The paired ammo for Winchester Service Grade (military designation M1152) is Winchester Defense 147 gr High Pressure (M1153) which is basically only available through SGammo, I don’t know what type of deal he has with Winchester but he gets some interesting ammo sometimes.
Anonymous No.64465277 [Report]
>>64465274
Also M1153 isn’t that great of a performing hollow point in the tests I’ve seen since it needs to perform well in both pistols and submachine guns. It’s based on the Ranger T (Black Talon) projectile but tuned for more penetration

This is the last ammo I bought and the one I did the most research on. I wanted subsonic 9mm that would actually expand out a 4-5 inch barrel. I had to take the word out third parties because there is literally nowhere I can set up testing media. There's tons of shitty indoor ranges, but nowhere I could even set up water jugs, let alone a meat target. I just have to hope it's effective if I ever need to Luigi Tyrone.
For my normal shit I got the cheapest range ammo I could find and either sig v crown or Hornetty critical defense for carry depending on what's available. I got some hard cast bear 357 somewhere in case I ever go innawoods. That should be sufficient for anything around here.

Building off this, what is the move to make when buying bulk 9mm for different uses? FMJ would be the easy cheap bulk option, but what about defense ammo? Granted, the vast majority of your ammo use will be for range/practice/plinking anyway, so maybe it's not worth considering.

NTA but I would say if you actually shoot don't let your 9mm ammo supply get below a case (1000 rds).

For 9mm defense rounds I personally keep ~300-400 rounds of hollow points (I do shoot them at the range occasionally so it's probably closer to 200 now) and ~150 rds of some fancy hard cast stuff for when I go hiking. I occasionally shoot those too but less often than the hollow points because they're more than 2x the price

I'm just a random retard online though so do what makes you happy anon :)

I want to switch from my Gen 3 G19 to an equivalent S&W because I like my Shield Plus so much and shooting it has brought back the awkward 2x4 feel when holding my Glock. Is there any real reason to go with an M&P Compact over a Shield X? Seems like the latter has all the benefits but with the slimmer profile, smaller grip, and better trigger of the Shield line and I should be able to use the mags for range time with my Plus.
Anonymous No.64466893 [Report] >>64466902
>>64466877
The compacts fatter grip make it harder to conceal, but easier to shoot with less felt recoil. It's a trade off, like all things. The M&P compact will be able to take more optics and aftermarket triggers if that matters to you.
Anonymous No.64466902 [Report] >>64466916
>>64466893
I have small hands so I think the grip size situation kinda balances out since I can get such a good grip on the Shield. Triggers aren't a big deal, the stock Shield one is really solid and there are decent aftermarket options, and I'll probably never run optics, just put some tritiums on it.

I guess the only things would really be mag and holster availability, factory S&W mags are stupid expensive and there are cheap plastic ones available for the regular compact, I probably wouldn't carry with them but they're fine for range time. I'd probably move my TLR-7A over from my G19 and I'm not sure what holster availability for that combo is like either, especially since the TLR-7SUB seems to be the popular option for these guns.

I said something similar and even pointed out that I had an optic fail on me and was accused of being a noguns larper.
If I recall correctly, it was Ben Stoeger fans. You never saw such amateurish shilling.
I think optics are great for duty guns. When concealment isn't a factor and you're actively engaging danger in the context of a work shift the issues are minimal. But for concealed carry, it's not worth the bulk and the extra points of failure (the electronics, the mounting, the glass itself.)
Another thing is that you have to commit to a weapon light, otherwise you run the risk of being in the wrong lighting conditions. The reticle can be too bright to wash out the target or too dim to see. Automatic dimming systems are unreliable as you won't necessarily be in the same lighting as your target.
If you're a cop or soldier the bulk of the light matters less and you're more likely to be able to anticipate conditions or have time to operate the controls on your optic.
Also, CC optic controls are often small and hard to operate under stress.
Concealed carry is most often counter ambush and by definition you don't choose the lighting and don't have time to adapt.

And posting this got me a whole thread of
>Nuh uh!
>No guns!
>You don't know anything!
>Optics don't break!
>Iron sights break too!

This is highly subjective. When I was shopping for my second gun the lgs guy was showing off the Walther ppq and hk vp9 triggers expecting me to be impressed and they felt meh. Maybe it's because I was late to the game and not used to shitty early Glock triggers. Also, dry firing a couple times at the gun store counter is totally different from live fire.
Someone on here can tell you "my canik has the best trigger, it's better than a Langdon tactical Beretta, I shoot the best groups with it" and it's true. For him and that gun. Then another anon can post "I bought a canik and it was unreliable, the trigger was inconsistent and spongey, it was a rip off, I couldn't sell that piece of shit fast enough" and it's true. For him and that gun.
>1911 or hammer fired
Lots of hammer fired guns have shit triggers. The only reason for an end user to care if it's hammer or striker is that the striker guns can be smaller and weigh less, but the difference is minimal. I'm assuming that by
>smooth pull
you're saying you don't want to deal with da/sa.
Most your striker options are going to have a take up and wall so by definition they won't have a smooth uniform pull with a surprise break. That being said, most modern triggers if they aren't fucked up by bad qc will be perfectly fine with obsessive dry fire. It will smooth out from use and your finger will get used to it.
Good luck.

>Light on carry gun
I can't be bothered. Usually it's a 380 in a pocket. But I'm so lazy I stopped carrying a spare mag. I do carry a separate light, usually a cheap AAA one I buy in bulk and have one everywhere. If I was working in the ghetto I'd bother, but that would involve consistently carrying a 9mm, buying a new holster going back to iwb.
Pocket 380 and chinisium AAA light are enough for what little I actually do anymore.

Why would you believe anything they say?
You got to make a personal value judgment. Do you want it for yourself?
If it's for resale, is going to be like selling a no hole j frame. They made lots of them, it's not going up enough to justify as an investment.
My personal opinion is that there are better options for practical carry, either cheaper or better, possibly both.

1911s have noticeably better triggers than just about anything, including other hammer-fired guns. After a certain point, though, I feel like actual shooting performance doesn’t closely track with how “nice” the trigger is. Chasing the dragon of “best trigger” is an inevitably fruitless endeavor. Enlightenment is being able to shoot anything.

Stay away from super light striker triggers, like Zevs and certain Overwatch Precision ones.

I find your post extremely strange by coming up with a strawman about Ben when his content is purely around shooting and not anything about defense. He rarely talks about conceal carry and when he does he says a decent amount of people agree with not carrying a dot. Your post sort of sounds like something one of our resident schizos would post, who absolutely hates being asked to post a gun he owns.

I sort of just question how much training with a dot you’ve done or what but in my experience I carry a dot most of the time since I shoot the best with a dot. My draws are more accurate. Rapid fire is much more accurate and faster. If I’m going to get into combat I want to have my red dot since it gives me a better chance of winning.

What's with hg anons and blanket statements? Not all grip tape is the same. If you skateboarded a day in your life you'd know that. Some of it is grippier, some of it is slidier. Also, why do you specifically think grip tape sucks? Have you actually done a deep dive on it and tried it out? I would argue the exact opposite as you. If you're not spending $80 USD on a custom piece of brass, the grip tape is the next best thing to buy. In fact, if you buy good grip tape, it's probably just as good or even better. One advantage of grip tape is that it can soften up the handle, reducing felt recoil. I'm not saying your $80 piece of brass is bad. It better be good for the price of a used mini fridge and some beers.

40 is underrated, imo its biggest issue is the loads that are most commonly available loads for it are 180 and 165 grain bullets, which especially 180 flies rather slowly. So you need a good expensive bullet like a gold dot to get reliable terminal performance, and wouldn't it not make sense to yeet something like a 135 grain jhp @ 1300 fps, and save some precious lead and get reliable expansion from trash bullet? Well those are also available, double tap and corbon makes them, but they are even more expensive than those gold dots.

If the argument that 9mm is cheaper and you can practice more doesn't sway you, get the 40 so you can feel like you have an advantage.
If you want more than an imaginary edge, rent both, compare groups. If you can reliably hit with the 40 it's objectively better. If you don't, you're wasting money and magazine space for a round you can't control.

They are literally all jammomatics by modern standards. Get whichever one you think is pretty, it will just be a range toy you eventually stop bringing out because it gives you nothing but problems. I haven't shot an inglis or girsan, but I've shot pretty much everything else. The new FN updated design had the best trigger and felt like a really nice high quality pistol with very smooth slide, but it still had abour 4 jams per mag. They just aren't good dude.

Pic rel, a couple years ago my coworker found out I was into guns and excitedly asked if I could help her figure out why her gun always jammed. It was an old surplus hi power. I told her to just sell it to someone who thinks it's cool and get something that actually works.

You are that someone who thinks it's cool. Skip to the step where you buy something else.

Do any other handguns interest you? Get one of those instead. Pic is another failure to feed. The SA 35 feels like a service pistol, it rattles and isnt fit as nice as this FN, which is fit nice but still sucks because it's a hi power and hi powers are bad

That's because the grip was designed with a Weaver stance in mind. Feels terrible when you attempt isosceles especially if you're a handlette. In any case, stock Gen3's are not GTG

Went shooting today. Rented a Bodyguard 2.0 to compare to my LCP Max. The Bodyguard did indeed kick less like how everybody says and it definitely had a better trigger, but I was getting light primer strikes every fucking mag. It also jammed once using nothing but factory loaded FMJ. The sights suck, or are at least worse than my LCP. My LCP went though three boxes of ammo, plus a couple mags of XTP loads. Not a single jam, light primer strike, or malfunction in any way. The magazines for the LCP were also significantly easier to load. It did kick a bit harder, move more in my hand so I had to adjust my grip when shooting more, and it also pinged my trigger finger enough that it started to go numb at the end of my range session probably around 300 rounds total between the LCP and Bodyguard. (I did also shoot my 380 EZ and Ruger Blackhawk but didnt include that ammo in the count)

Overall, I was thoroughly unimpressed by the Bodyguard. If I didn't have the LCP Max and was planning on buying one to carry, I probably would buy the LCP again over the Bodyguard 2, especially considering that the Bodyguard is almost 100 bucks more expensive and is less reliable. I think that all the LCP needs is one of those silicone sleeves or maybe talon grip tape stuff to reduce the shifting in the hand. Aside from that, I liked my LCP a lot more than the Bodyguard. I think I am going to buy an Mcarbo extra power recoil spring to see if that helps tame the recoil down a bit to more favorably compare to the Bodyguard. Overall, the Bodyguard felt a little nicer, but was significantly less reliable. The LCP isn't really something you want to go shoot hundreds of rounds through at the range, but it's a pocket pistol, you probably arent going to do that anyway. It was, however, so much more reliable. The bodyguard feels like a range toy that you can carry while the LCP feels more like a purpose built carry gun.

Oh yeah I also forgot to mention the safety. My LCP Max is an older one that does have a safety, but the bodyguard I rented did have one. It was rather difficult to put on safe, but came off safe easily. I like the safety on the Bodyguard. You really have to want to put it on safe to get it there, but it easily comes off safe. You can totally ignore the safety if you want and you won't accidently flip it to safe while shooting or carrying. If you plan on getting a BG2.0, get the one with the safety. Manual safety equipped models tend to have a higher resale value if that matters to you.

I have one in black anodized.
The good: It is nice and weighty and does grip the non-dominant hand very well.
The bad: it comes as one size and it is smaller than the large backstrap. It is not compatible with the OEM hold backstrap spring (the long U-shaped bar) and is held with a metal rod (pictured at the bottom of the backstrap.)

Time will tell if polymer flexion will chew it into the frame at any noticeable degree but nothing to report after 1k+ rounds with it so far.
If you're already buying LTT the the cost of admission shouldn't bother you.

Well, cheaper, more capacity, better handing, and the historical fact that the USA was the only member of NATO that used .45 ACP and ultimately made the switch to 9mm for streamlining.

Not too long ago I had to send a J frame back to smith because the hammer pivot pin snapped and the basic aluminum frame J frames have that pin as part of the frame. Because a piece of the frame was broken, they replaced the whole frame, but because the serial number got replaced, they apparently had to send it to an FFL and I had to go out and pay another transfer fee and fill out another 4473. Fucking annoying. The pawn shop I sent it to only has 20 dollar fee, but still, I had to pay extra money and take time out of my day to drive out there because they cant make a frame that won't break. . .
