Could RC planes be somehow equipped to shoot down FPV drones? It would be cool with little RC planes escorting FPV drones and having dogfights with enemy RC planes

yes but not planes but quadcopters designed for max speed, there were several records last month on top speed and the ukranian goverment signed a contract with uk arms industry to produce drone interceptors, i think they are autonomouts because its HARD to pilot that thing manually against a moving target like a shaheed .

its interesting how they adapted hobbyist tech to m,ilitary grade low cost interceptor against russian shaheeed spam absolutely a new development that never really happened in the past

>to produce drone interceptors
in the uk, they will be built in the uk with ukranian money??? not sure about that but they are building up nato military industry thats for sure

Oh no here comes the punt gun
Aaand it's gone.

Sky Pirates movie in 1977 covers this in detail. Two boys use remote control Spitfires to shoot down an RC plane with stolen diamonds!

I dont think most interceptors are designed for gerans, they are a lot sturdier than quadcopters and large enough to target with other weapons.

We see multiuse interceptors before long, it could very well be a fixed wing drone with buckshot. Not consumer grade like OP's pick, needs to be faster as you say.

The problem with the Geran is that it's cheaper than the missile used to shoot it down. Project Octopus aims to solve that problem.

You'd end up just using fpv drones to escort fpv drones.
Honestly, with way shits going, I dont think its unreasonable to expect to see a situation where youre basically flying .22lr loaded mini-p51s around, dogfighting with other mini-fighters going after drone bombers, and thats probably the only way this drone warfare bullshit can cease being as gay as it is. Also probably a good time to invest in developing low caliber, caseless rounds that you can reliably stuff into the wings of this shit.

Only if it's with an F-14.

Yeah. Gun based systems are needed for cost efficency, or laser but that has its own drawbacks. The problem is getting the gun to where it is needed on a strategic scale, when you are trying to defend all your industrial infrastructure and energy grid in a massive theatre as Ukraine and Russia are.
Existing CIWS like the Phalanx are great, but expensive and you need to have them in the right place, and enough ammo capacity to deal with a large wave
Phalanx is probably overkill for just Gerans

Moderately effective yet easily producable solution: Figure out best calibre and fire rate for a ground based system to quickly and efficiently destroy them, use computer assisted targeting. Mount on a fast vehicle, control and command using intel from ground raders and AEW&C. A number of light vehicles stationed near possible flight paths could move to intercept if detected in proper time. Main downsides would be reliance on shit tier backroads and civilian traffic. Yes, I guess a toyota could be used...

Better longterm solution: Unmanned fixed wing drones that can outpace a Geran and shoot them down. Launchable from a vehicle, controlled from ground or air.
Projects like the plans to create semi-autonomous wingmate drones for jets could be very good at this, multiplying their ability to engage and destroy drones quite cheaply. Assuming they have a cannon.

I also meant to mention that any (single use) interception drone will not be as cost efficient as could be desired given just how cheap gerans are and that they naturally need a higher level of engineering to catch intercept them. And that >>64472171 is pure kino and probably where we are going for FPV drones.

Just ram them with it

Obviously it could work.

Small planes like that have hardly any load capacity and ramming seems very hard to do. I envision some cameras with computer system to track targets and fly the plane precisely.

When weight is limited and the system expendable, it is better to use rockets rather than gun-type weapons, unless a large number of consecutive shots is required.

Just have 2 flying with a big net across the sky that fucks up all the drones it comes across. Instead of trenches they should just put a bunch of nets up.
