Why cant "modular" guns be made in metal with a decent paintjob?

Have you seen the new Steyr ATd and ATc? It's got a metal slide at least. Unfortunately, since the premium brand (Steyr) chose to make it rather than the workhorse brand (Arex), its going to cost a pretty penny.

I wish this thing wasn't a piece of shit. It looks so good. Modularity is awesome, the low profile optic is *chef's kiss*. The Army forcing them to add a manual safety absolves it of strikershit complaints. It's got an elegant grip and a relatively subdued slide. But it's a slightly flawed design that remains defective due to greed and you support the seal clubbing of the gun industry by buying it. Man.
