I want a SAA, but looking at pictures they look like pretty big guns compared to even a full sized 1911.

Cimarron sells a small frame SAA made by Uberti. You could buy a Ruger Single Six if you don't mind .22. They also sell a nine shot .22 magnum and a seven shot .327 federal with the same frame called the Single Nine and Single Seven.

I don't see the point in an saa in a caliber not .45. Anything smaller throws the proportions of the gun off and looks funny.

They rarely scale down the plowhandle grip to match the smaller frame. Birdshead grips look better since they are meant to be compact.

Well, single action revolvers are cool and I want one, but there’s something about big pistols I just don’t particularly like I guess.
I just sold a 1911 today cause I never shot it.
>>64490174
Is that true though? I thought the .38 Ubertis were the same size, and ironically heavier cause they didn’t take out as much material.

My 12-shot .22 Uberti is a great gallery gun. Not sure why anyone would even want one in .45 colt, when they could get a Ruger in .357/.44/beeger if you want a real gun, and also the transfer bar safety to not have to carry "cowboy," with the hammer down on an empty chamber.

IIRC most of the originals (first gen) were in .44-40 or .38-40.
A Colt SAA with a 7&1/2" barrel is both thoroughly adequate for general use and a pleasure to fire.

Anonymous No.64503685 [Report] >>64503761
>>64503326
.45 LC is somewhat versatile; some loads are weak so they can be used in old guns and tend to match .45 ACP; other loads are almost as strong as .44 Magnum, which is why some handloaders would treat it as a "poor man's 45-70."

So out of curiosity-
I had a 1911 in 45, and quite frankly I found out I don’t really like 45 ACP. However I found myself wanting a SAA clone in 45.
If I didn’t like 45 ACP, is it stupid that I’m looking at a 45 LC?

Depends on why you hated it, .45lc is a straight wall rimmed cartridge that can be loaded all the way from "cowboy" loads for launching wax slugs at paper, during boomer frontier dress up days all tje way to Earl's pissin' hot loads level so the reclil is what you make of it ajd I've yet to meet a person whose views on a roumd begins and ends with the diameter of tue bullet so Id doubt yoir views on acp will carry over to lc. Of you want to yeehaw im the woods an SAA is great, get a lee handloader kit and some black powder and make a mess it's a fun time, bonus is it's almost impossible to overload on BP and damage a modern gun made to handle smokeless.

I think because I could take 9mm, 38 Special, and .357 and shoot old pots, pans, and appliances and the bullets would go right through stuff. Whereas the 45 seemed to bounce off a lot of stuff.

True, but ironically they’re heavier because less material is taken out of the barrel and cylinders; plus if I wanna larp as a cowboy; cowboys didn’t use .38 or 357

Cowboys definitely used .38 special in the twilight of the west era. Elmer Keith, an actual cowboy, invented .357 magnum.

>Cowboys definitely used .38 special
Cowboys used .38 Long Colt (or very rarely .38 S&W Short). .38 Special didn't exist until 1892. Elmer Keith was born in 1899 which was after the Open Range era ended; he is definitely a cool rancher, but he is not a cowboy as we imagine them.

Twilight era, not the open range era. Cowboys used Lugers, you'd best believe some used M&Ps.

Anon, once barbed wire was spread everywhere and the trains ran everywhere, it was no longer the cowboy era. Sure there were old men who had been cowboys still alive, but Keith wasn't one of them. Keith was born one year after the Luger was invented. He never saw the cowboy era with his own eyes.

Canada laws change frequently enough that only people who live there can keep up. I remember in high school a YouTuber telling me that he could own black powder handguns; while I was in college, a friend who visited there told me that they couldn't own any handguns, only long guns, and now the government is taking away long guns.

I'm just speaking facts. The romanticized cowboys we see in media or history are from the 19th century. The guy who was 1 year old in the year 1900 was not a cowboy. If you won't make a clear distinction, then I guess any cattle rancher today is also a cowboy to you LOL.

So long as you understand that they were obsolete when they were brand new, pretty much all of the popularity comes from boomers remembering films and TV, and a cowboy's job was to move livestock around for shit pay.
However thanks to said boomers it's the only old-timey revolver you'll get at a reasonable price. They're not even that big by prevailing standards. One more reason to hate.
