I've been in this situation and you honestly just have to point out that one bad individual doesn't represent an entire group. Just talk about how minorities bear a unique impact from stereotypes that cis het white people don't feel. Talk about privilege, and about how someone could feel being compared to a bad/unattractive person when they're not like that.
