It's one of those sexualities that's a bit ahead of the curve. Most people don't understand it or disregard it. I've often been told it's not real, I'm just a sad incel addicted to anime. This is literally just what rightoids say to trans people 'your sexuality isn't real you're just delusional. Unfortunately the LGBT community isn't really supportive of it yet.

There's been a lot of research into it the last decade or so, especially coming out of East Asia where it's a bit more common. Hopefully with the rise of AI partners there will be a bit more mainstream acceptance of it in the future.
