I mean it's hard because like, on one hand, before the past like maybe a decade and a half there was basically literally no one starting hrt before 18. I'm pretty sure the average age to transition is still like 30. if you're starting at 18 you're still starting earlier than like 99% of people who ever have. but then on the other hand, you're also starting as an adult after puberty has ended, so like...
the difference between an 8 year old transitioner and an 18 year old transitioner is far greater than the difference between an 18 and a 28 year old transitioner, despite the same age gap.

I think in terms of biology: pre-puberty/at the start of puberty (blockers before anything really happens) is turbo youngshit (basically cis), during puberty is youngshit, 18-25 is midshit, and 25+ is lateshit.

But socially, relative to other trans people: under 18 is nigh unheard of extremely privileged, 18-25 is youngshit, 25-40 is probably midshit, and after that is lateshit.
it just depends on how you mean it.

It depends on how your body developed cuz everyone’s different. Some boys literally look like linebackers by the time they’re 14, some start balding at 16, and some boys look like giga chads by the time they’re 18. With a very small number of boys still looking like twinks by that age.

In my specific case, I had an extremely late puberty. I literally didn’t get facial hair until I was 19. And that’s the precise moment when I broke down and started hormones. I can only pass when my hair is long and I’m wearing makeup.

I think it's more of a societal thing than it is physically related to puberty like everyone's arguing. like if someone started before they were 18, they either did diy or had very very supportive parents, and in my mind it's just a totally different thing. in my case I started at 18 because I was forced to without the money for diy or parents I could rely on, and that feels like a whole different thing.

fully agree and i want to add that i think an indivduals own development following "puberty", is also a factor. take twink death for one example, some ppl go through twink death during college years, if that person who goes through twink death at ~20, transitions at 21--they are no longer a midshit as they've already completed puberty and largely undergone post-pubertal masculinization. But had this individual been on course to undergo their masculinizing at say 26, but they started hrt at 21--this person is still a midshit. so i think there is some flexibility to the midshit category as it relates to that kind of development, just as there is with the youngshit category being relational to puberty. Finally, i think it's important to note that these categories are rigid and stiff, while the development they measure is not. Someone starting at HRT at 30 vs 40, will have much worse outcomes starting HRT at 40 because they'll have been poisoned by testosterone for a decade longer, yet these would both be categorized as "oldshit".
